I am deeply honored to have been invited by @Rhodes_Uni in #SouthAfrica to deliver a public lecture in memory of my late mentor, supervisor, and friend, Professor Rui MW Krause, two years after his passing. My lecture, “Innovating with Nature: From Discovery to Societal Solutions,” is intended to be more than an academic presentation. I hope it will also be a moment of gratitude, remembrance, and reflection on a scientific journey that Prof. Krause helped shape in profound ways. After my pharmacy training at the @Unikinrdc, Rhodes University became the place where I learned to connect chemistry more deeply with pharmaceutical innovation, and to believe that discoveries inspired by nature can become concrete solutions for society. Prof. Krause embodied that spirit: rigorous science, generous mentorship, intellectual freedom, and a deep belief in the potential of young scientists. Standing again before the Rhodes community, this time as the invited speaker, is both humbling and profoundly meaningful. I look forward to honoring his legacy by sharing a story of science, mentorship, natural products, nanotechnology, and the responsibility we have to translate discovery into real impact. With gratitude to Rhodes University for this invitation, and with deep respect for the memory of Prof. Rui Krause. Photo: From left to right - Dr @AlainBams, our late mentor Prof. Rui M.W. Krause, and myself at Rhodes University on 12 April 2019, the day of my PhD graduation and the final student milestone of a deeply meaningful scientific journey. #RhodesUniversity #Mentorship #NaturalProducts #Nanotechnology #PharmaceuticalSciences #InnovationToImpact #InvisibleFixes @AASciences @AsjRdc @GlobalYAcademy @ScienceRDC @HervePedro1 @BEBUC_Scholars

Books are written by authors, but they truly come alive through their readers. Over the past few weeks, I have been deeply humbled to receive photos from readers across different countries who have welcomed Invisible Fixes into their homes, offices, laboratories, and classrooms. Thank you for sharing these moments with me! I'm equally grateful for the thoughtful reflections the book has inspired: "Beyond its focus on nanotechnology and nanomedicine, Invisible Fixes is a powerful call to action on how we translate scientific breakthroughs from the laboratory into real-world patient impact." — Prof. Mojtaba Abdi-Jalebi, University College London "Invisible Fixes transforms complex nanomedicine into a compelling and deeply personal story of loss, discovery, and hope… showing not only what nanomedicine could make possible, but why equitable access to it matters." — Thomas England, Founder & CEO, Memsel Inc. "What stood out to me is the shift from celebrating discovery to asking whether discovery actually changes lives." — Thokozani Amanda Chimasula "Some books inform us; others change the way we see the world. Invisible Fixes does both." — Suzanne Bigohe, Lecturer, University of Kinshasa "The combination of science, personal perspectives, and global vision makes Invisible Fixes both engaging and inspiring… I enthusiastically recommend it to researchers, students, and anyone curious about how tiny technologies can create enormous impact." — Dr. Tian Xu I am equally honored that Prof. Twan Lammers RWTH Aachen University, who graciously wrote the foreword to Invisible Fixes, said this: " As someone who has spent much of his career working on nanomedicine, which by many is depicted more like science fiction than a real medical discipline, I realize how difficult this balance is to achieve. Yet, the clear language and engaging storytelling make Invisible Fixes appealing and accessible to both nanomedicine specialists and a broader, diverse global audience." Seeing Invisible Fixes travel across borders reminds me of one of its central messages: knowledge has its greatest value not when it is created, but when it circulates, connects people, and ultimately improves lives. Thank you to everyone who has read, discussed, shared, and supported Invisible Fixes. #ScienceForAll @AsjRdc @GlobalYAcademy @AASciences @ScienceRDC @HervePedro1 #InvisibleFixes #ScienceForSociety #TranslationalScience #Nanotechnology #GlobalHealth

“It will be of great interest to you if you create the Young Congolese Academy of Science” These were the words Prof. @NdjokoKarine said to my @BEBUC_Scholars colleagues and me on 10 December 2018, to help create something new, something that did not yet exist in our country, DRC. Looking back, six years after we launched the @AsjRdc in 2020, I can sincerely say that the beginning of my academy journey owes much to Prof. Njdoko! I later joined the @GlobalYAcademy, which deepened my appreciation of young academies. My collaboration with the @acmedsci and @AASciences further reinforced my understanding of how academies can connect expertise, mentorship, policy engagement, and international cooperation to help science serve society. Having served as an Executive member of @GlobalYAcademy strengthened one belief I continue to hold firmly: Science academies are a precious opportunity for humanity – but only when they are relevant, useful, and meaningfully connected to society. Today, I am delighted to have been invited by @NASAConlineOrg to facilitate a timely and thought-provoking webinar around a question that matters deeply: What makes a science academy relevant? For me, this connects strongly with one of the central reflections in my book, INVISIBLE FIXES: discovery alone is not enough. The real test of science is whether it reaches people, informs decisions, strengthens institutions, and improves lives. This conversation is for everyone: whether your country does not yet have a Young Academy OR your academy already exists but is asking how to become more visible, influential, sustainable, and impactful, please join us. What began seven years ago with personal loss has now become a global conversation. Thank you to everyone who joined us for the launch of Invisible Fixes last Thursday at Constructor University in Bremen. This book is more than a story about nanotechnology and nanomedicine. It is a call to rethink how we move discoveries from laboratories to lives, from publications to patients, and from innovation to impact. Here is a glimpse of an evening filled with inspiring discussions, meaningful connections, and a shared belief that science should benefit everyone. Many thanks to you all @GlobalYAcademy @AsjRdc @BEBUC_Scholars

Cheers, KNI
