What will it take to make #India’s semiconductor ambitions resilient? Linking industrial incentives to infrastructure performance, assessing critical supply-chain dependencies and developing viable alternative production capacity across states can strengthen economic security. Can #India turn its federal diversity into a strategic advantage? As semiconductor investments expand, economic security will depend not only on central incentives but also on states’ ability to deliver reliable power, water, infrastructure and skilled workers. Ashish Kumar Singh explains why #CapabilityFederalism is key to building resilient industrial ecosystems. or-f.org/40985

Very impressed with the students! They are just like the students in the Lodha Genius Program.
Wolf Prize Laureates meet the next generation: Great discoveries don't end with the people who make them. They inspire the people who come next. During their visit last June, Wolf Prize Laureates met with students and young scientists across fields including mathematics, physics, chemistry, and more. These encounters brought together some of the world's most accomplished researchers with a generation just beginning to ask its own big questions. They shared ideas, discussed their work, and offered students a rare opportunity to engage directly with scientists whose discoveries have helped shape their fields. For the Wolf Prize, celebrating excellence is also about what that excellence can inspire. Because today's students, researchers, and curious minds may well be the ones behind tomorrow's breakthroughs.

Chandrasekhar died exactly 31 years ago today. At 19, on the boat from India to Cambridge in 1930, he worked out that a white dwarf above ~1.4 solar masses could not remain stable. Eddington publicly rejected the result. 53 years later, Chandrasekhar won the Nobel Prize for his work on stellar evolution.

This man on my left is the first Indian to win Boltzmann Medal, the highest honour in Statistical Physics. And yesterday, ICTP announced that he has been awarded the prestigious Dirac Medal for his contributions to theoretical physics. But his story is much bigger than the awards. Meet Prof. Deepak Dhar, one of India’s finest theoretical physicists. He studied at Allahabad University and later went to IIT Kanpur for his master’s, where he decided to pursue physics seriously as a career. What came next was even more fascinating. He went to Caltech for his PhD, where he was exposed to some of the greatest minds in physics and even worked with legendary Nobel laureate Richard Feynman as his teaching assistant. He had everything one could wish for. He could have stayed in the US and built a remarkable career there. But he chose to return to India. He came back and contributed deeply to building India’s scientific ecosystem and Today, he serves as a Distinguished Professor at ICTS-TIFR, Bengaluru, where I recently had the privilege of shooting an episode with him. He is genuinely one of the GOATs of theoritical physics, yet remains incredibly humble and grounded. Such a proud moment for Indian science. Link in Comments-

Almost exactly 50 years ago I had come to @ncert Dehli for the interview part of the exam for the National Science Talent Search scholarship. Yesterday I was there to give a talk on "Superconductivity की अद्भुत कहानी: खोज से लेकर इस्तेमाल तक" youtube.com/watch?v=AXf4C-eU… It was a privilege to meet many past NSTS scholarship holders who have had eminent careers, as well as many wonderful NCERT faculty, including Dr. Pratibha Jolly, Prof. A.K. Ghatak, Prof. C.K. Varshney, Dr. Suchir Mishra, Prof. R.K. Kotnala, Prof. Amitabha Mukherjee, Dr. R. Ramachandran, Prof. Arun Kumar, Prof. Sanjay Jain, Prof. Nivedita Deo, Prof. Sunita Farkya, Prof. S.V. Sharma, Prof. R.K. Parashar, Prof. C.V. Shimray, Prof. Ruchi Verma, Prof. Niroj Sahoo, Dr. P.V. Raghvendra, Dr. Shishupal Singh, and of course, Prof. Gagan Gupta, the incredible host. One point of discussion was: Why are schemes like the NSTS scholarship discontinued in spite of their phenomenal success?

Great scientists expand the boundaries of what humanity knows. It was an honour to felicitate Professor Jainendra K. Jain and Mrs. Manju Jain on being awarded the Wolf Prize, one of the world’s highest honours in science. Congratulations, Professor Jain.
