I haven’t seen this movie but all the clips and gifs I’ve seen have color, interesting cinematography, actual direction, etc. Looking up that Watts didn’t direct it is hilarious. It really was on him and not just the Feige factory coming down on him.
If any non-comic fans are wondering why everyone hates Tom King as a writer, he’s like a depressed JJ Abrams.
Lanterns pisses me off extra because I still love GL despite largely falling away from comics as a whole.
Later seasons of CW’s Flash and Arrow are legitimately better shows. And those were bottom of the barrel.
Another problem with modern writing. People think more = better developed. Doc Ock’s wife (maybe 5 minutes of screen time?) in Raimi’s Spider-Man 2 has more character than Aunt May in the MCU Spidey movies.
Modern stuff has more “content” but significantly less substance.
To crap on Lanterns even more, a full season of that has less GL substance than First Flight, the Ryan Reynolds movie (still bad btw), any segment of Emerald Knights, and the JL GL-focused two-parter despite being longer than all of those combined.
The most baffling thing to me about the sentiment “Lanterns is a good show, just not a good Green Lantern show” is that it’s not a good show either.

You guys are so quick to call female characters self-inserts meanwhile this was Marv Wolfman and George Perez in the 80s

Comic fans outright hate or, at best, have multiple problems with every single reboot/retcon, even if a specific one is overall better. The New 52 is near universally panned, with only a couple runs (ex: Batman, GL) being liked.
GL fans like myself overall love the emotional spectrum retcon. Johns's run on GL is an all-timer. They also know it is a massive retcon that cheapens some things and not everything that utilizes it is good. Post-Brightest Day, things run out of steam, for example.

Sometimes I think about how a AA studio with Robocop Rogue City was able to properly recreate how two actors looked like 40 years ago but a western AAA studio with 9 digits budget struggle to get it right with the actors in the studio.
