The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill abruptly decided it will no longer hold in-person classes on campus after about 130 students tested positive for Covid-19 in the first week since classes began cnn.it/320AfWf

Rough numbers on COVID-19 testing for a University campus. Say you want to test ~50,000 people (UA size) and to minimize spread you want to test once every 2 weeks That's about 5k test per day. Pima has about 2.5k per day! I like to hear the logistics of making that happen.

Now is a great time for us all to remember that we're in a novel situation w/evolving data. Recommendations and guidance change…bc they must. Calling scientists hypocritical bc we've evolved w/ the new info does us all a disservice. We've got to lean into the changes to improve

This is upsetting that scholars who have worked extremely hard to get where here, have sacrificed time away from their families, contributed to research and been a productive part of our communities are being forced to leave by something they couldn’t control.
This is bad. ICE just told students here on student visas that if their school is going online-only this fall, the students must depart the United States and cannot remain through the fall semester. ice.gov/news/releases/sevp-m…

What is data carpentry, and why would a social scientist need to know about it?
