I would like the record to show that I enjoy working with 98% of my clients, you're just not going to see much of it on here because "I had a client call today and it went fine" just doesn't make for good Twitter
It's wild to me that 2848, a form that gives someone full access to a taxpayer's info and allows them to act on their behalf, has no way to make sure that the acts authorized on page 1 were actually signed off on by the taxpayer, whose signature goes on page 2
Update: all three outstanding 8879s got signed and I just submitted by last e-file batch of the season
As for the tournament...was leading my flight through 18 but let's just say after a week of working late nights my body was not ready for a full day of golf 🫣
One underrated thing I learned at my last job was how to communicate with clients near deadlines in a way that conveys urgency without inducing panic in your clients. It’s a tough balance!
Whoever told me "if this job gets exciting you're doing it wrong" would not enjoy the day I'm having
My decision to spend my first October 15th as a firm owner playing in an all-day golf tournament is looking dumber and dumber by the minute
When you throw the "any charitable donations?" hail mary and the client responds with a number that flips the return from balance due to refund
A very pedantic pet peeve of mine is when states are alphabetized by abbrev, but shown by their full name, leading to North Carolina being listed before all the New states
And tonight I realized that's how UltraTax decides what order to put all the state returns in the PDF 🥴
In today's edition of "AI still not ready to take my job": client sent a list of clearly AI-generated questions about a notice which included a question which asked about a discrepancy in total tax where it clearly mistook the amount due on the return for the total tax
"Amount you owe" vs "actual amount of tax" is a completely understandable mix-up for a layperson but would be an embarrassingly basic error for a "tax pro" to make
YouTube TV needs a quad box comparison feature so I can know if there are any other CFB sickos watching Kentucky, UNLV, Georgia Southern, and Northern Illinois along with me
Happens at least once a year: client who is already mad they owe a bunch hands you a 1095-A that makes the already "shocking" amount due a few thousand dollars higher
I love when financial institutions redesign their account pages because not only does it make them prettier but it also makes the information I'm looking for harder to find :)
Great to see that Lenovo is copying the HBO model of "let's make a fantastic product but make the customer experience so terrible that people just leave instead of using our great product"
