Ancestry have updated their dna results. And I am now even more dull than ever. Not even a soupçon of interest.

I’m not a cat person (at all, I’m allergic)
But this cat is so funny to watch. All the videos just make me laugh at his little face. :)
Jilly Cooper and Jackie Collins aged 12. Some lines have stayed with me 40yrs on - so opaque at the time but with age and experience…
One in particular on the usefulness of youthful music lessons giving both ambidextrous fingers and double stopping mouth movements.
What a great site - full of WW2 information. I grew up where I’ve placed the pinpoint. To the right was what we all locally knew was the Secret Nuclear Bunker (this was mid 80s). Had no idea about all the other fortifications though!

(And big thanks to @mrjonkelly for the photos)
Really worth the time to read.
I wrote a long read for the Guardian about the evolution of the British trap house, focusing on the story of a friend of mine who was 'cuckooed' twice in London. The first time was grim, but the second cuckooing sparked a fascinating friendship.

I would dearly love to be sitting at the table, with the ability to understand while drinking vodka. I love their utter passion.

"remember with compassion the person who paid a dreadful price"
- the person who missed out on becoming a Cambridge professor because a liar got it
- the person who missed out on being taught by a good professor because a liar got it
- the person who could have edited the Today programme but a liar got it
- the person whose book could have been published but a liar got it
- the person who was investigated by the police for doing his own job well because a liar didn't like it

Meet the graphic design powerhouse Jaamu LTD, listed as a takeaway on Companies House!
Why did this business sponsor SIXTEEN (16!) graphic designers to come to the UK in 2023? For reference, the VFX company that did the Star Wars franchise (Industrial Light & Magic) imported 30 graphic designers that year.
In 2023 Jaamu LTD sponsored:
16 Graphic designers
1-5 Web design and development professionals
1-5 Restaurant and catering establishment managers
1-5 Sales administrators
That's between 19-31 staff, in 2023 alone, regardless of job title that is a lot of staff for a standard 1-unit takeaway place (even moreso for a random small house).
The business moved to the shop front "The Grillos" in October 2024, as great as the shop front is it doesn't seem to have benefited from the might of 16 graphic designers, or half the visual spectacle of the Star Wars franchise to put it another way.

On the importance of lighting on sculpture.
Read about Daniel Chester French’s desperate campaign to fix the lighting on his Lincoln Memorial statue:
I find this a very interesting study. I have chronic pain as a result of a back injury and surgery and when it’s very bad and the opiates aren’t hitting the spot… I head to the nettle patch.
Getting stung by a nettle is one of the most misunderstood sensations in nature, and the chemistry is exactly why Jiri wakes up feeling reborn instead of wrecked.
Every nettle leaf is covered in trichomes: microscopic hollow hairs tipped with silica. Brush against one and the tip snaps off, leaving a glass needle that punctures your skin and injects its payload under pressure. He didn't rub a plant on himself. He gave himself thousands of tiny hypodermic injections.
The payload is the interesting part. Histamine, serotonin, and acetylcholine. Your body already runs on those exact molecules as neurotransmitters. The plant weaponized your own signaling chemistry and fired it back through your skin, plus formic acid for the initial burn.
That explains the "all night body tingling." Common nettle also carries oxalic and tartaric acid, and those two are the ones researchers pinned as the long-lasting agents. The histamine flush fades in an hour. The acids keep the nerves firing for hours after.
The "cleansed and reborn" feeling the next day has a mechanism too. Flooding a region with that much irritation overwhelms the local pain fibers and forces a systemic response: blood rushes to the area, the body dials down inflammatory prostaglandins, and you get a rebound of relief once the storm passes. Pain nerves fatigue. Anti-inflammatory chemistry floods in behind them.
This has a name. Urtication. Roman legionaries flogged their limbs with nettle to keep circulation up in cold campaigns. Culpeper prescribed it in the 1600s to "draw blood to the place." A 2000 randomized trial had 27 arthritis patients press fresh nettle to painful joints daily for a week, and it beat the placebo on pain and disability.
Jiri thinks he found a warrior ritual. He rediscovered a 2,000-year-old anti-inflammatory delivery system that happens to run on his own neurotransmitters.

“Trust me” Famous last words! The after pictures are hysterical! 💀
When you send your beloved, youthful, full-of-life fur baby to the groomer and they come back an anorexic 80-year-old smoker with perhaps a smidge of a drinking problem! 😳😂
What happened?
