Data collection on poverty is oftentimes measured at the household level, which doesn't show differences in poverty between household members. This leads to continuous #datagaps on poverty, especially in gender.

Inclusive language is not a fun little add-on.
If you change your words without changing your systems, policies, budgets, roles etc, you're just polishing the turd of injustice.
Change your words as - and because - you're changing the entire system.

We’re excited to share the zine ‘Data for Gender Equality’ - a compilation of writing and artwork exploring all things #data and #GenderEquality - developed by @IWDA & @Equal_Insights in collaboration with some incredible #data and #GenderEquality orgs: bit.ly/3Qh6v2o?utm_source=tw…

“Data shines a light on whether we are making progress or whether we are falling behind” - Julisa Tambunan at #WD2023
As Julisa notes, we must make sure this data is available and reflects the lived realities of women and girls, yet 80% of SDG indicators are gender-blind!!

Without #GenderData, decision-makers and change agents are left trying to act on gendered issues in a gender-unequal. The #GenderDataGap is systemic barrier to change, limiting available evidence & slowing action. #DataFeminism #WomenDeliver #InvisibleWoman #WD2023OceanicPacific

ALT A quote by Jo Crawford that reads "persistent gender data gaps are a legacy of gender inequality and patriarchal assumptions about what matters. But they are not in the past. They help to reproduce gender inequality now. Patriarchal assumptions remain deeply embedded in measurement approaches and in the types of data that are prioritised."

#Genderequality isn't some utopian aspiration, it's a promise made through out the #2030Agenda & the #SDGs.
How can states deliver on this promise? Here are 6 key trends we identified in our #SDGGenderIndex.

Don't freak out when people have they/them pronouns.
You already know how singular they works.
“Someone called for you.”
“Did you get their name?”
"No, they didn’t say.”
This made sense, didn’t it? I told ya so. ⬆️
It’s not new. It’s been around since the 1300s.

An underrated element of accessibility = giving multiple options.
And not asking people to explain or define why. Just give people options. 😊

Any feminism that privileges those who already have privilege is bound to be irrelevant to poor women, working class women, women of color, trans women, trans women of color.

The idea that Participatory Grantmakers can’t “handle” complex decisions is rooted in a belief that people with money are cleverer.
If you’re a funder then unequal systems have probably led you to believe you are cleverer than you actually are. Normalise getting over yourself.

We know #womencount, but does the data know? There are major gaps when it comes to #genderdata, & major gaps in the funding to close them
#CSW67 is key in setting #genderequal policies but we need open, timely, disaggregated data to inform those policies & ensure accountability!

‘Yet, ironically, the lack of gender data is driven by gender inequality. Gender data gaps are not only a symptom of gender inequality but they also perpetuate gender inequality. What we choose to measure…is a reflection of what society values.’ EXACTLY 💪🏼💪🏼📶📶 #GenderJustice
Ahead of #InternationalWomensDay, IWDA and @Equal_Insights are taking stock of the progress that has been made towards #GenderEquality – and why more #GenderData are essential to achieving it!

A third of philanthropic resources are spent on applying for philanthropic resources. Imagine the good communities could do with those resources if funders interrupted this vicious cycle by replacing unnecessarily onerous applications with a conversation. 🙃

'According to a 2022 report by Law Family Commission on Civil Society, the cost of application processes for charities is around £900m a year. On average, grassroots charities are having to dedicate more than 35% of their resources to applying for grants.' civilsociety.co.uk/fundraisi…
