There are few decisions in an English curriculum more exciting than choosing the books pupils will study. There are also few that are more consequential.
When was the last time you reviewed your school's literature spine?
Download our literature curriculum audit guide, which sets out six key questions you should be exploring: ow.ly/FlLN50ZWLmT
Remember, the aim is not to create a universally agreed list of the 'best' books. It is to build a literature spine in which every text has a clear purpose, every sequence has a rationale, and pupils' experience of literature becomes richer and more ambitious over time.
As part of the National Year of Reading, many schools are reflecting on the reading experiences they provide for pupils.
How do we choose curriculum texts that are both ambitious and accessible?
Our latest blog explores six questions to help review and strengthen your literature spine.

A good book isn't automatically the right curriculum choice.
When choosing texts for an English curriculum, the question isn't simply "Is this a good book?" it's "Why does this book deserve a place in our curriculum?"
In our latest blog, we explore six key questions to help schools choose ambitious literature that all students can access and enjoy.

It was fantastic to welcome more than 500 teachers and leaders to our induction training events across July and September as they prepared to deliver an AC+ subject excellence programme in their schools.
Through practical activities, discussion and collaboration, participants explored the pedagogy underpinning our programmes, brought curriculum principles to life, and considered how implementation could be adapted to their own school context.
Thank you to everyone who joined us and contributed to the sessions. We look forward to continuing our partnership with schools throughout the year.
Success starts with confident teachers consistently delivering brilliant lessons.
When you join our subject excellence programmes, your staff members begin a series of CPD covering subject knowledge, pedagogy, curriculum design, assessment and more.
