It looks like every congressional district along the U.S.–Mexico border voted Democratic in this election, from San Diego to Brownsville. A remarkable political statement, especially considering how central the border has been to Donald Trump’s political rise. The very region he turned into a defining symbol of his political movement is now sending a very different message to the rest of the country.
As a former journalist, I remember how frustrated I got when editors made me include quotes from the “other side of the aisle,” despite the fact that they had absolutely no skin in the game or anything enlightening to say. A shit oppositional take does not merit a quote.

An ICE spokesperson says officers shot and killed a Mexican national after he allegedly attempted to evade arrest and “weaponized his vehicle in an attempt to run over” an officer in Houston this morning.
ICE says at around 6:50 AM CT, they attempted to stop a vehicle driven by Lorenzo Salgado Araujo. The spokesperson claimed Araujo is undocumented and didn’t follow verbal commands.
ICE accuses him of trying to run over an officer causing the officer to fire his weapon “in self-defense.”
Araujo was transported to a hospital where he passed away.
This is the second ICE-involved shooting in less than a week. On July 1, an ICE officer discharged his weapon after they said a suspect allegedly “weaponized his car” and fled in Harrisburg, PA.
It also comes as ICE has ramped up arrests, recently making 10,000 arrests in five days.

This is the result of the politicization of the DOJ. While already deeply flawed, the agency has now been co-opted by an administration hellbent on carrying out its white nationalist, anti-immigrant (anti-American) agenda.
The DOJ has dropped 23,000 criminal cases — including hundreds of investigations into terrorism, white-collar crime and drugs — while prosecuting 32,000 new immigration cases in just the first six months of Trump’s second term.
