I love long tree life content.
Offa’s Oak in Windsor Great Park
Named after King Offa, who ruled over the kingdom of Mercia from 757 until 796, a time when the tree likely germinated, making it c. 1200 years old
Partially collapsed and fragmented it's trunk is around 11m in circumference

Frustrated by not knowing about planning applications that may impact you?
You can subscribe to alerts through planning.org.uk - if you limit the search area to 1/4 mile, it's free (you need to provide your postcode & email)
It covers all applications & it works....

I often wonder what parents will tell their kids as they become teens and adults. The honest answer is mostly that they pretended it wasn’t happening because doing something would have meant time, effort and activism. There again, most younger people are mostly ignoring it too

Wake up every morning. Say to yourself l "I do not consent to the destruction of life on earth."
It only takes 25% of the population to enact social tipping points. 25% to flip the system. In that I find hope in the #ClimateBreakdown

A poor objective! That intensity of young trees would have a high death rate. New plantations never compensate for mature trees. The supporting ecology is not there and tree monoculture is high maintenance. Better to have preserved more original trees.
“Saplings used to compensate for felling of mature trees have failed amid droughts & lack of “aftercare”..about 45% of 860,000 new trees along new stretch of A14 in Cambs died…planted to compensate for felling of mature trees”
400,000 trees planted died

The word "Anthropocene" falsely represents the predicament humanity is in. We are entering a near-explosive geological instant of high CO2, high global temperature and high sea level. That's an event boundary, not a geological era. And the cause is not anthropic, it's capitalist.

Whoever decided you can’t build a cycling city in hilly or wintery conditions forgot to tell Oslo.
Boosted by a ten-fold increase in infrastructure construction—€450 million worth—since 2015, (e-)bicycle traffic has grown 77%, as it strives for a 16% modal share target by 2025. – at Oslo, Norway

Your parents are right about some things and wrong about others. They're right that you have to work hard and finish things, but they'll tend to be too risk-averse and their taste in problems will be a generation out of date.
A sad day. In addition to his amazing research on batteries, John Goodenough's life is a story of making surprising moves in academia. A true inspiration. RIP
