In case you're wondering what kind of radical indoctrination I'm doing in my classroom, one of my students wrote "0 is NOT a natural number" on the top of their exam.

So negative numerals actually also speed up multiplication of large numbers. Convert your number written using the digits 0-9 to instead use the digits -4 through 5. Cajori then presents an algorithm for fast multiplication. (3/4) #iteachmath #MTBoS
