Moore's reporting undersells how specific this case is. Adam Abdullah had a work permit, a Social Security number, and no record beyond two parking tickets. ICE told him he was headed to Somalia with a refueling stop in Cuba, shackled him the whole flight, and left him at Guantanamo's Camp Six, built for terrorism suspects. DHS calls the group worst of the worst but could not say which detainee did what. A lie about the destination is doing the actual work of the detention here.
Last month, ICE told 12 Somali men they were being deported to Somalia. Instead, they sent the men to Guantanamo Bay. motherjones.com/politics/202…

A deportation order that was issued in absentia because the immigration court is so incompetent they sent a hearing notice to the wrong address.
I see this all the time in my practice and it’s a mistake we can easily correct. It does not justify shooting people in the street.
We are going to get him out of detention, we will get him proper medical care, and hold these agents accountable. Period end of story.

The work permit does not make him in the country legally - but the final deportation order does mean he is here in violation of law.

This Austin ICE shooting is pretty incredible. They smashed the DoorDash driver's car. They shot the driver in the back. They pull them out of the car. Tear open his shirt. Confirm he's been shot. Take him to the hospital. Remove him 4 hours later with the bullet still in him and bring him to detention center for questioning, refusing to tell his family where he is. Apparently he's still there with the bullet in him today, without pain meds, without seeing his family, without seeing counsel, and with ICE doing its own investigation into itself.
