What is #AnythingButAutistic? Many autistic people experience a tough time getting diagnosed. A lot of us get long lists of diagnoses. It’s like professionals are willing to diagnose us with anything but autism if we don’t fit their definition of the right kind of autistic.
Do you prefer to express yourself through poetry? Many autistic people struggle to get a diagnosis, and the journey leads to art! Share your #AnythingButAutistic poem here:

We've heard some concerns that the autistic community hasn't been inclusive to level 2 and 3 autistics. While many autistic people feel it's not necessary to use levels because it is such a broad spectrum, others feel levels are essential in order to have their needs met.
We want to be inclusive to all autistic people and hear from the community. What are your thoughts on levels? #ActuallyAutistic #AskingAutistics

For those who had gotten diagnosed with something else before they were diagnosed with #Autism.
What was it that you were diagnosed prior?
For me:
1. Oppositional Defiant Disorder
2. ADHD (Combined)
3. Anxiety
4. Depression
5. Certain learning disability

“Why is my Autistic friend so OBSESSED with their Autism?!”
Great question. Let’s talk about that… 🧵

#MyAutisticTruth is as an adult 'with mild Autism' with 'low support needs', with 'high functioning autism' I still have MELTDOWNS. You might not see them very often, although you'll see me leave the building suddenly or rush to the bathroom. But when you do see them, you're

#MyAutisticTruth Throughout my life I just felt so unheard. When I was comfortable expressing myself outwardly I was too much. When I became more reserved I was too quiet. Now, I am speaking up again and so many refuse to listen. I just want my VOICE to be heard.

I’m Autistic. One of the most damaging stereotypes in my opinion is the idea that we aren’t smart.
We voluntarily do deep studies on random topics because we just love learning that much, but some people still think we are incapable of education.

If you’re autistic, you might have ADHD (and vice versa); studies indicate that up to 80% of autists may meet the criteria for ADHD. If you’re wondering how your doctor could’ve missed one but not the other, prior to late 2013 the DSM didn’t permit dual autism and ADHD diagnoses.

"Why don't you just do the thing?"
— people without ADHD that don't understand there is literally nothing I want more than to do the thing, I am desperate to do the thing, but my brain simply won't fire the neurons required to move me into action.

I'm so tired of people telling me that the world works differently than it does.
This goes for people who think struggling grad students, disabled people, and trans people can be helped in certain ways that those populations don't know about.
The systems are broken.

If you’re self-diagnosed autistic do you just call yourself autistic or feel like you need to specify self-dx? If you do just say autistic was there anything that helped you feel comfortable enough to start doing that?

i feel like it’s time people realize that they think they would “would never bully an autistic person” and they NEVER did that in school
but they definitely DID make fun of the kids with “weird”interests, kids who don’t like social situations, kids who show autistic traits.

In my area, autism is only for kids. If an adult woman shows frustration or gets overloaded or cries when standing up for herself, she gets slapped with a BPD label.
With all of this new research about autism coming out, I’m struggling to believe BPD is even real.
