“So you lost everything during FTX?”
“Yes.”
“Then you bought a hardware wallet because exchanges can’t be trusted.”
“That is correct.”
“Then your bitcoin wallet got hacked because the entropy was too weak.”
“Yup.”
“Then you switched companies and they also got hacked and lost your data?”
“Yes, Dave.”
“But you’re still buying bitcoin?”
“Yeah.”
I like the idea of paying dreps for their efforts in voting to keep it sticky, with high quality and interaction. Personally, pay per a vote from the treasury is the only way I can imagine this working.
We already have lobbying and it doesn't work in any form of government.
I understand that everyone wants to freely choose the DRep they want. In politics, this makes sense.
But a decentralized system must incentivize a high number of actors (ideally) with similar voting power more than the quality of actors.
Moreover, a decentralized system cannot judge quality. So, it must rely on incentives.
Quality is a necessary property for smart allocation of funds. Therefore, delegators may prefer a few best DReps. In other words, rather centralized governance.
Setting incentives is difficult, because we want to achieve both decentralization and quality.
Cardano has no governance incentives, nor any restrictions on the size or number of DReps.
The top 10 DReps control about 50% of voting power, so governance is centralized.
Quality is subjective, but in my opinion it is rather low. This is not necessarily the fault of DReps, but rather the fault of the system.
DReps have to decide on a large number of proposals in a short time, often beyond their regular job, family, hobbies, and the possibility of consulting with experts.
There are few experts in governance; often they are smaller and little-known DReps.
Top DReps can start monetizing their voting power. Instead of rewards being paid from the Treasury, submitters will be the ones who pay.
The line between fair compensation and bribery is very thin and difficult to recognize. There is room for corruption and conflict of interest.
The current model without incentives does not support either decentralization or quality.
On the contrary, it even becomes a place where high concentration of voting power might motivate submitters to pay DReps for consultations and perhaps also buy YES votes.
The number of active DReps has dropped below 200, and this trend is likely to continue.
To be clear. It is okay if DReps get paid for their work. It is wise for submitters to consult with DReps before submitting a proposal. But it must be transparent.
I understand that some people don't want Treasury to incentivize governance because resources are needed for other important things.
This reluctance may lead us to a situation where it will be possible to get ₳50M from Treasury for $100K that the submitter pays top DReps for "consulting" and "marketing".
Cardano governance needs to incentivize decentralization and quality ASAP. After almost 2 years since MVG launched, we should have enough data and courage to make this change.

Cardano just completed the van Rossem upgrade and officially moved into development for the Dijkstra era.
Most people will ignore this because it is not a meme, a celebrity token, or a 100x promise.
But this is how serious infrastructure is built.
van Rossem improved:
• Plutus performance
• Ledger consistency
• Node security
Now Dijkstra is preparing Cardano for:
• Ouroboros Leios
• Nested Transactions
• Linear Leios
• Peras
What’s this mean?
Cardano is working toward processing significantly more transactions and more complex applications without abandoning security or decentralization.
And no—Leios is not fully live yet.
This is a phased engineering roadmap, with major implementations targeted throughout 2026.
Other blockchains market first and fix the architecture later.
Cardano researches first, builds carefully, and lets the network speak for itself.

$1.6 million dollars in Bitcoin was drained from my account on July 29th in the Cold Card wallet hack.
My Bitcoin was in cold storage. My keys were on a ColdCard device kept in a safety deposit box that had never been connected to the internet.
This part's nerdy, but here's what happened:
Hackers discovered a vulnerability in the part of the hardware wallet code used to create seed phrases.
This allowed them to use AI to brute force guessing seed phrases.
I was at our cottage and heard about the hack today.
"No way this affects me." I thought.
I logged into Wasabi––software that lets me view my bitcoin wallets online.
Right away I saw lines of red transaction–withdrawals–and I knew.
From 9:36pm - 9:43pm on July 29th, every wallet I had had been emptied.
18.25245043 btc gone. That's just over $1.6 million dollars CAD.
Perhaps the hardest part about this is that I did everything right.
I never shared my seed phrase with anybody. My devices never touched the internet. Everything was kept in multiple safes and safety deposit boxes.
None of it mattered. All because the hardware that created the seed phrase originally had one line in their code from 2021 that had a vulnerability.
I'm filing a police report and a report with the Ontario Securities Commission. But I don't expect to recoup anything.
A part of me is trying to make sense of what just happened. Or try to figure out a lesson in it. I'm struggling. $1.6 million is a staggering amount of money to have stolen.
I guess all that I can think about right now is that I'm so damn happy that I'm an entrepreneur and that my earning potential is under my control. Mark my damn words. I'll recover.

Daedalus by far has some of the most positive rationales of treasury withdrawals on Cardano of all-time. Even the no votes are very positive and supportive only criticizing the current funding process. If you haven't voted, please help get us over the line this weekend! Thanks!
To the hacker that just drained my entire life savings, thank you. Thank you for taking food out of my family's mouth, thanks for taking my daughter's tuition money, thanks a lot. If you have any decency you will send the BTC back, but I don't expect it.
We made Daedalus as fast as Yoroi in a few weeks, and this is a direct threat to Emurgo's delegation, and voting power. Hence why a founding entity that was paid billions of Ada to develop a wallet would vote against us. This is low @emurgo_io and a direct conflict of interest.
Emurgo's Yoroi DRep (almost 0.7B of voting power) voting against the Daedalus maintenance plan, which includes its handover to community-run development, is not just a conflict of interest, but a clear case of a malicious actor in Cardano governance.
Sunsetting Daedalus means Yoroi directly benefits as people (mostly Japanese whales) migrate to it, increasing Emurgo’s voting power.
Sad day for Cardano, RIP Daedalus.

I fixed it for you.

QUESTION: Who better represents Satoshi's legacy than Charles Hoskinson?
QE usually happens after rates drop. This is great for PMs, stocks and crypto.
It will be full on 2020 bullrun again if America starts to QE and kicks the printer into high gear.
