This is my biggest fear for 2024. Declining trust and increasing polarisation. We see the worst examples of this on X. Are we still capable of nuanced, respectful debate on tough issues? How do we recover? Genuine ideas welcome! #auspol abc.net.au/news/2024-02-19/i…

NEW: This year, Dublin will become the latest European capital to bar thru-traffic from its city centre. Private cars & commercial trucks will be allowed access only if their final destination is downtown. The goal is a 60% traffic reduction in the centre. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

Should industry groups & in-house lobbyists with access to parliament be disclosed? Which MPs sponsor their access? Rebuilding trust includes believing decisions are made for all, not vested interests. Transparency is a start. #auspol #restoringtrust smh.com.au/politics/federal/…

Well… will it? That’s the question I asked in Parliament today. It’s been nearly 8 months since we released our Committee report into gambling reform, which recommended a ban on gambling ads. We’re still waiting for the Government to decide. #bangamblingads #auspol

One thing that climate change and the fossil fuel industry can’t take away from us is the beauty and power of music. The wonderful @MitchTambo cover of Goanna’s Great Southern Land was one of many songs that gave me joy and kept me going on my #ClimateHungerStrike.

It took nearly a decade since we made What's the Catch with @SBS for this to become a reality. High time. Mandatory country of origin labelling introduced for seafood in Australian hospitality venues abc.net.au/news/rural/2023-1…

When interest rates went up  “not only do we pay more to the banks for our mortgages, but the Reserve Bank, that we own, also forks out an extra billion dollars to them as well” I have not been able to stop thinking about this @AlanKohler piece.

We're now up to 2,020 people with unfettered, 24/7 access to Parliament House. We have no idea who these people are. This is a huge transparency fail that doesn't live up to community standards. #SenateEstimates

Being born and brought up in the hub of Western culture and civilization and finally rising above the spheres of prejudice and suspicion about Islam and Muslims, I feel fortunate to have found my way and prayed in both Jerusalem and Makkah’s holy cities. The world is one, made for all of us to live and reside on; there is enough room for everybody. I see no sense in the continued violence in the Middle-East, and every other place where men, women and children are being slaughtered and driven from their homes. No reason, except perhaps, for the enormous spoils and profits it raises the evil warmongers and military industries. There are no words I have to say about such vile and contemptuous agents of darkness. My eyes weep for the victims, but my heart is calm in the knowledge that no one escapes God’s perfect justice. That helps give me peace. #Palestine #israel #ethniccleansing #genocide #PeaceTrain #worldasone #peace

Most amazing reversal of biodiversity loss & desertification fueling climate change that I have ever known - and at no cost. All we ever need to do is to address the cause of any problem - it is as simple as that. This was achieved by greatly increasing all animal life - wildlife and livestock together while managing holistically. Land that was in a bad state with very little animal life when I bought it in the 1970s had improved by 2007... but still always dry. For the last few years this new wetland has appeared complete with fish and breeding geese & there are now elephants, buffalo, giraffe & many other species as the habitat is improved for all life, including humans.

It’s pub day for Blood in the Machine, the book I’ve been working on for over five years. It tells the story of a chapter in history too often papered over—how workers rose up at the dawn of the Industrial Revolution when entrepreneurs used machines to take or degrade their jobs.

On Threatened Species Day another 48 plants & animals have been added to the endangered list 🥺 We're heading in the wrong direction. The solutions are clear - stronger environmental laws & investment in Nature. Govt must show the courage to solve this. smh.com.au/politics/federal/…
