Yikes. The 10-year bond yield climbed above 5.2% today for the first time since summer 2007.
Wall Street may think this is ok, but it's jarring for Main Street. This is painful for many Americans.
1) Mortgage rates are back above 7%
2) Auto loan rates are rising swiftly now too
3) Personal loans have been a lifeline for many moderate-income Americans, but those rates are also climbing
4) Refinancing is dead. Any household or small biz hoping to refi a loan is struggling
5) Many banks are sitting on bonds that yield under 5%, so they're having to hedge their holdings (to avoid selling at losses)
There's a lot of pressure building on the economy from higher borrowing costs.

Wonderful words from my friend Dr. Neil Manimala, who is running for County Commission and is President of the Hillsborough Medical Association.
Words by bigot Bo French - which have been amplified and lauded by so many others in our increasingly toxic and bigoted culture - demean Indian-Americans.
Our country is built on the idea that, no matter where you come from or your religious faith or culture, you are as American as someone who traces their lineage back generations so long as you affirm certain civic principles.
Indian-Americans are part of our American Dream. They often come here with nothing and work hard to become good Americans. Those Indian kids in the photograph that bigot forwarded are as American as Yankee Stadium.
To those who are like my parents and grandparents were - people with dreams struggling to keep up, struggling to learn English, but working like hell for the American Dream and to become good Americans - know that history stands with you and that what is right with America will, God willing, prevail.
Thank you Dr. Neil for speaking from your heart. That’s America to me. 🇺🇸❤️

Why close elementary schools on higher ground while keeping schools like Gulf Beaches Elementary and Madeira Beach Fundamental that face extreme flood risk? It seems backwards.
