Suomi, you have been incredible as always! A fantastic and relaxing long break after the #UniTurkupromootio
Incredibly grateful for an amazing experience at the ceremonial conferment! A fantastic experience with great memories made! @utucomp @UniTurku #UniTurkupromootio

1/2 Very enjoyable lecture and discussion at the United Lutheran Seminary this eve. We explored Digital Theology through a Computer Science lens and thought about how Computer Science might influence Theology and vice versa. 🧵

2/2 We covered good ground including digitisation, digitalisation and digital transformation and how co-design might lead to better technology solutions. We concluded with a practice exercise capturing requirements for church software and turning to user stories. Good times! 🖥️

Looking forward to giving a lecture (entitled 'What can Theology learn from Computer Science?') to students at the United Lutheran Seminary this evening... despite the late hour of the whole event, owing to the time difference!

Delighted to announce that 'Digital Theology: A Computer Science Perspective' which I wrote recently with @prof_Erkki has been shortlisted for @the_issr's 2022 Book Prize. Winners to be announced later this year. The book is available for purchase at: amzn.to/3kzELEC
1/4: Interesting article discussing the end of online church provision (by many, but not all, churches) as "an act of exclusion": gen.medium.com/cutting-onlin… I was hugely moved by the story of Ms Pat declaring "they remember me". Some further thoughts from a DT perspective... 🧵

3/4: At the moment, many churches use off-the-shelf meeting (e.g. Zoom, Teams) or video (e.g. YouTube) platforms to stream services. Would we be having the same conversation if more churches had bespoke online platforms? How might co-design help us better meet user reqs?

4/4: What theological considerations are church leaders making when taking these decisions? How are these theological considerations influencing tech design? What could the secular tech world learn from these decision-making experiences?
The Prayer Online project is designed to take forward the emerging field of Digital Theology. For more info see: 'Digital Theology: A Computer Science Perspective' which I recently wrote with @prof_Erkki; available now: amzn.to/3kzELEC @UniTurku @cranmerhall @DROdurham

1/3: Great kick-off workshop with co-authors (@prof_Erkki, @lorenzocantoni and Prof Jorma Tarhio) of the first study the new Prayer Online project last week. Study design is now well underway. Hoping to run the survey during Mar 2022 with interviews and focus groups to follow. 🧵

2/3: The survey will permit a qualitative analysis of the role of technology in the prayer life of Christian believers. We will be exploring motivations, platforms, activities, advantages/disadvantages and the potential for new features to enhance prayer.

3/3: Later studies within this project will include an exploration of the use of unsupervised machine learning to categorise online prayer topics, analysis of online prayer-related content (inc. images and video) and design science research to explore potential new technology.
Another fab read by @pmphillips: premierdigital.info/post/is-… Loved the end quote: "I still think that the world of tech can be a holy place. It depends who builds it. It depends who fashions it. It depends on the church having the guts to be involved and embedded in its creation".
UTU Dept of Computing (@utucomp) have released a short video interview, in which I discuss my recent PhD thesis: youtu.be/y60SxwpQQgU There's also brief discussion of my new postdoctoral research @UniTurku toward the end. Thesis freely available at: utupub.fi/bitstream/handle/1…
