In Louisiana’s river parishes, resistance is legacy. Their fight against industrial harm today continues in the same spirit as their enslaved ancestors' uprising in 1811. Residents have always fought for liberation from a system that sacrifices people for profit. #TheAirWeBreathe

Nonprofits including @HEFNorg, @CFAllegh, @O_R_V_I, & @BreatheProject jumped into action to help after the East Palestine train derailment, & are continuing the work needed to prevent more chemical disasters: philanthropy.com/article/eas… @Ansje @Philanthropy
This is personal for me. My house is just a stone’s throw away from a rail line carrying some of the same toxic chemicals that were spilled in Ohio. I worry every time I hear a train go by that my community may be next.
See my latest op-ed about what philanthropy should do.
Opinion: Philanthropy should provide the resources communities need to respond quickly when chemical disasters happen — and to prevent such catastrophes from occurring in the first place. @HEFNorg phlnthrp.com/3BwG7Zy

A great day for #EnvironmentalJustice. @POTUS signed an executive order to A new executive order to strengthen reviews & community involvement in projects impacting communities. So many en EJ leaders that have been for many years in the frontlines were there to support!
"it's my hope that as consumers become more aware of the chemicals that are present in the products that they use every day, that they use their voice to let businesses know that it's not something that they want."
The lawsuit says Thinx underwear, long marketed as safe and sustainable, contains harmful chemical substances known as PFAS. The company denies those allegations but will pay up to $5 million.

Toxic substances like #mercury, #asbestos, & #PFAS are used to produce vinyl (PVC) flooring.
Vinyl production exposes workers.
It jeopardizes the health of #frontline and #fenceline communities.
It harms the environment and it harms people.
This is unacceptable.
"This is #LuxuryVinylTile. Some of these look a lot like wood. They're not wood. They're actually just plastic."

I began planning this study in 2019 with the idea that combining all existing US data on prenatal phthalate exposure would finally give us the sample size (>6k) needed to address the question of whether phthalate exposure is associated with preterm birth. It is. 1/
In this large observational study, urinary biomarkers of common phthalates used in consumer products were a risk factor for preterm birth. ja.ma/3nQ1heu
