Replying to @PetruSofio
@PetruSofio compliance was awful here near MIT. The head alignment is confusing drivers

This explains a lot about this location at Harvard I was pretty confused by lol.

Ped signal for one direction and RRFB on the other and a median bike stop sign.

Temporary signals in China are super cheap and seem to work. We probably overbuild these in the US. Two stacked trimodal, green yellow and red in the same light, indications for thru and left turns.

Support for the US is collapsing in the Middle East creating decreased security for Americans as a whole. Enabling war crimes is terrible foreign policy. The US stance must be immediate aid and ceasefire.

Hot Take, China is a lot more livable for Urbanists than the US. Society is much more accessible for the young and old, services are generally within 15 minutes, transit is plentiful, parking costs money, and third places are where people congregate.

I learned today that in Xi'an, China you're not allowed to drive one day a week and people make it work for the greater good. From first hand experience the traffic is terrible here. global.chinadaily.com.cn/a/2…

Combined bike/left arrow indication driven by the left turn phase. Left turns are always served simultaneously to prevent a conflict. The intersection itself is a SPUI. Shanghai.

This is collective punishment and a violation of international law. We cannot starve nearly a million children to death over the horrific actions of Hamas, whose disregard for Israeli, Palestinian, and human life overall could not be more clear. We must draw a line.

You gave them a green light! Everyone saw you do it! Your own state department is purging “de-escalation” and “ceasefire” from all of its statements!
Biden: It's also a priority for me to urgently address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza… We can't lose sight of the fact that the overwhelming majority of Palestinians had nothing to do with Hamas and the appalling attacks

If our City Council really cared about cracking down on e-mopeds, they would emulate this approach... not align with anti-cycling crusaders like @BobHoldenNYC It's not too late. Calling on @StreetsPAC allies to take a look at a legislative framework that will work.
NEW: Just intro’d legislation to require all mopeds be registered at point of sale. 🏍️ Current loophole allows these motor vehicles to go unregistered when bought. Let’s close the loophole and lessen the burden on riders by making sure registration happens before they ride out of the shop. w42st.com/post/welcome-deliv…

Shanghai makes great use of strings of metal barriers to create more protected bikeways, protected intersections are often created with a couple pieces of jersey barrier. This could be easily implemented in wider bike lanes in the US.

Notable this is prevented in many places by onstreet parking which is heavily restricted in Shanghai.

The functioning Urbanism of Shanghai constantly surprises me. Public toilets are plentiful, transit is fast and heavily subsidized, the streets are 10-20 decibels quieter without unmuffled engines/blaring music and the EV mode share is 30% because ICE registration is expensive.

From discussions with locals the major negatives in the City are poor work life balance and the insane price of buying real estate. Strong cultural pressure to own leads to a price to rent ratio of ~70 much higher than of New York's 20.

Shanghai has an extensive network of contraflow bike/moped lanes that are controlled by bicycle indications. In many places this is possible because street parking of cars is prohibited.

I always thought the US was behind in transit payment systems but Hong Kong is pretty bad. Everything is really cash dependent.

The cross platform transfers are pretty sweet though. They interline for two stations so you can cross platform in both directions.
