Founded in 1986, YHEC has grown into a team of around 70 employees, working both from our York headquarters and remotely across various locations. Our recent Strategy Day brought everyone together in person, offering a great opportunity to connect and share ideas face-to-face. Of course, we couldn't miss the chance for a group photo! #TeamYHEC

As part of the University of York, staff at YHEC enjoy opportunities to contribute to students' learning and development. Last month, we said goodbye to student Kapoona Eteng, as she completed her MSc placement with us. It has been a pleasure having Kapoona as part of the team and we wish her all the best for her next steps. Sam Harper and Stuart Mealing are YHEC authors on a recent paper in our ongoing series examining the impact of the RefluxStop Device for patients with Refractory Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD). Our work has investigated different healthcare systems and this analysis describes the short-term budget impact of introducing RefluxStop as a GERD treatment within the Italian National Health Service (SSN), following earlier research looking at Switzerland and the UK. This type of research contributes to advances in global healthcare by providing in-depth, country-specific insights that address the unique needs of each healthcare system, while also broadening understanding of conditions like Refractory GERD. This week, our Word of the Week is Reliability Generalisation. Reliability generalisation is a type of meta-analysis. However, rather than deriving an estimate of an overall effect size for an intervention, it provides an estimate of the internal consistency of a questionnaire, test or survey, and may be thought of as how well the individual items or questions included in the instrument correlate with each other.
