You left out the most important part. The trigger was Hasina's govt increasing reservations for families who were martyred during the 1971 war. Which party in India is running on the plank of expanding reservations?
Since we're all worried about India turning into Bangladesh
Let's look at the situation in Bangladesh before the unrest erupted.
1. Jobless growth, resulting in serious youth unemployment.
2. High inflation and cost of living.
3. Because of lack of private jobs, govt jobs became highly competitive
4. Suppression of opposition leaders and critics, leading to crackdowns, including students.
5. Erasure of free and fair elections.
Now ask yourself: who exactly is turning India into Bangladesh?
I don't have the post to prove it yet but my proudest moment on twitter and one of the proudest moment of my life was when I made Gautam Bhatia concede a point I made in an argument we were having in India's housing laws.
This is a very good advice actually.
I know i will get plenty of hate for this but it seems like quite a contradiction to claim Vasudhaiva kutambakam as a defining civilizational value on one hand and act in this manner towards some of the most vulnerable people in the world on the other hand.

A case in point, you know exactly when the violence came at its worst, just after control of provincial law and order came under complete control of elected minister instead of British officials. They picked a side and encouraged them to wreak havoc on those outside their group.
I cannot recall anything as insulting to national honor has happened in our history. The minimum this govt could do is to prohibit providing the dignity of official engagement by completely boycotting this event but with this govt, asking for minimum would be asking for too much.
The violence came after independence was enacted. Brits were the ones keeping under control, we have always hated our own kind. The larpers cosplaying revolution on the streets of Delhi will one day realise that the govt, for all its faults, is the only thing stopping

Why are people under the impression that a violent overthrow of the govt will lead to a govt of progressive LGBT friendly communist utopia instead of a dehati anarchy where twinks would be sent to countryside and forced to dance on arkestra music.
Spends half the day shouting on tv and the other half spewing nonsense on Twitter. He invokes credentials to lend authority to his arguments, but most of it is characterised by cherry-picking, bad-faith interpretations, straw-manning and a remarkably poor reasoning.
