For my Honours thesis I wrote on how the red meat industry seemed to have learned from the mistakes of tobacco's denialist campaigns, acknowledging the need to address livestock emissions. Sadly, 8 years on it's clear that the denialist campaign has begun vox.com/future-perfect/36222…
and here's a publication based on that honours research, exploring the potential learnings from tobacco control for addressing red meat's environmental and health impacts if you're interested: frontiersin.org/journals/sus…

Important lessons for Australia here. Temporary carbon offsets used to excuse real, permanent emissions.
Not good for a continent that burns.
Still think the Safeguard Mechanism works, @LEANAustralia?

Well then: Of the 400,000+ acres burned in the Park fire, "about 43,000 of those acres are forests that were supposed to stay intact for at least 100 years under California’s carbon offset program," per @carbonplanorg analysis. politico.com/newsletters/cal…

Ultra-processed food corporation power is growing, & multi-stakeholderism is broadly accepted in global food governance. But who governs powerful multi-stakeholder institutions and what are their implications for UPF policy responses, governance & food system transformation?

This fig in new report from @DrRachelCarey @maureenfmurphy1 & Tara Behen shows why we need a genuine whole-of-govt approach to #FoodSystem #policymaking, instead of typical silos - #health or #agricultural issue. Adequate food is a #HumanRight; we're not delivering on that in Aus
Super interesting and important research! Totally agree on the breakdown of regen ag and how different elements of it have (or don't have) transformative potential #regenerativeagriculture #agroecology
Great first day at #ISA2024 where I presented on corporate co-optation of regen ag, finding lots of parallels w/ @GosselinLaure work on contested food system discourses and learning about ecocide in Palestine and Afrin from @pinardinch w/ fabulous facilitation by @ZTzankova!
Also really enjoyed connecting with @LaurenGifford around the terrifying acceleration in carbon and biodiversity markets, and hearing more generally about the biodiversity-climate nexus in this morning's sessions #ISA2024
