Thread:
Two days ago, Israeli warplanes bombed an apartment in Gaza. A woman named Reem Awad was burned to death before the eyes of her little daughter, Maryam, who was not yet four years old.
Perhaps you have seen the video of Maryam lying on her bed, watching the flames consume everything around her, including her mother.
I keep wondering what a little girl of four could possibly think at such a moment.
Did she call for her mother? Did she wait for her to get up and carry her away from the flames, as mothers always do when their children are frightened? Did she wonder why her mother would not come to her anymore?
I do not know. And I wish no child had ever been made to discover the answers.
It is terrible enough to think of a person burning to death. But to think of a little girl watching her own mother burn, unable to do anything, is more than my heart can understand.
Maryam’s father was killed at the beginning of the war. She has no brothers or sisters. Now she has no mother either.
At an age when a child should still be learning the simplest things about life, Maryam must somehow learn to live without the person who was meant to keep all the frightening things in the world away from her.
And the last thing she saw of that person was her death.

Israeli prison guards are firing rubber bullets at close range into cells, yards, and even lawyer waiting rooms, severely injuring Palestinian prisoners, Haaretz reports.
In one case at Ktziot prison, a prisoner's testicle was "completely mutilated" and surgically removed, after he said guards kicked him in the testicles during a search and a rubber bullet fired through his cell door later hit the same testicle. "I looked like a butchered animal," he said.
Another prisoner needed surgery for a fractured tibia. Physicians for Human Rights and the Public Committee Against Torture documented 21 cases and warn of an "unprecedented escalation," with shooting becoming "another routine way to apply violence in prisons." The Israel Prison Service dismissed the findings as "a worldwide smear campaign."

The IDF is not allowing water in to Ras al-Ahmar for a month now. The area is the hottest in the entire West Bank, sitting in the Jordan Valley, with temperatures reaching 113 (45 Celsius) this time of year. They hope to see the residents either die of dehydration or leave. There are around 300 residents, including many children and babies.

An investigation by Liberty Investigates and Al Jazeera revealed that 13 UK universities consulted arms manufacturer BAE Systems on handling student protests against Israel’s genocide in Gaza.
Participating universities—including Manchester, Sheffield, and Southampton—receive up to £15m from BAE research agreements.
BAE Systems supplies Israel with parts for F-35 fighter jets, which have played a key role in the Israeli military’s destruction of Gaza.
UN Rapporteur Gina Romero warned of a "troubling pattern" of universities taking security cues from weapons firms.

A 92-year-old war widow being arrested for holding a sign and calling Andy Burnham a bastard is the kind of image that should stop people cold.
She lived through a world war. She buried a husband who served. Now she’s being lifted off the pavement because she refuses to stay quiet about Gaza.

Mansouri, Lebanon is being reduced to absolute rubble. Here is today’s latest demolition by Israeli forces.
Genocide is defined under Article Il of the 1948 UN Genocide Convention as any act committed with the intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial, or religious group. One of the five acts is “deliberately imposing destructive life conditions.”
More than 65 towns and villages in Lebanon are still under Israeli occupation and are undergoing daily illegal civilian home and infrastructure demolitions.
Here’s my view of Mansouri from the ground.
Israel has been systematically destroying towns and villages in Lebanon. This is an act of genocide.

Masked settlers with clubs and stones attacked Israeli activists from Standing Together and Rabbis for Human Rights this morning at Jannatah, south of Bethlehem, where they'd come to help Palestinians with the olive harvest. Four were injured, three taken to hospital, two with head wounds. The army arrived only after the attack. They do this to Jews of conscience too, but this is nothing compared to what they do to Palestinians.

After Israel occupied Gaza & the West Bank in the June 1967 War, Israeli leaders established a committee to manage the occupation.
The committee formulated a document on the principles guiding Israeli operations in Palestine.
In the first draft of the document, the first sentence of the first paragraph reads: “the policy aim is to bring about the exit of the maximum number of Arabs from the occupied territories."

A mass funeral has been held in Gaza City after at least 100 bodies were recovered from the rubble of a residential building targeted by an Israeli airstrike in 2023.
The remains were recovered by Palestinian Civil Defense crews in recent days and authorities say there are still thousands of bodies buried in the destruction.
The Israeli Defense Force has repeatedly said Hamas embedded itself in residential areas and rejects allegations of targeting civilians.

The Israeli government is refusing to let hundreds of children’s wheelchairs into Gaza.
The 900 wheelchairs, donated by two Australian charities, remain locked in a warehouse in Jordan, having been sent off more than a year ago.
Shipments from Kids on Wheels Alliance and Wheelchairs for Kids arrived in Jordan in February and October last year.
Australian news channel ABC reported that Australian officials raised the issue of the wheelchairs being blocked multiple times with the Israeli government but received no response.
Shaoquett Moselmane, chair of the Kids on Wheels Alliance, told the New Arab that the charity had received no warning of security concerns about the shipment from Israeli authorities.
“There could be no legitimate reason to hold up wheelchairs for children with special needs,” he said. “No reason of any nature given as they are just wheelchairs for the thousands of amputee children and the thousands more in need of support.”
Even before the start of the genocide in Gaza, restrictions on imports into the Strip made life difficult for disabled Palestinians. Since 2023, a UN committee estimated that 21,000 children have been left disabled because of “excessive use of force by Israeli forces”, while over 40,000 have sustained “war related injuries”.
The head of UNRWA – the UN agency for Palestinian refugees – stated last year that Gaza had become “home to the highest number of child amputees per capita worldwide”.
Humanitarian agencies have warned of shortages of basic medical supplies in Gaza, with groups stating that the Israeli government has deliberately restricted shipments of aid into the Strip.
Abdullah Al-Balawi, a doctor with the Palestinian Australian New Zealand Medical Association, told ABC that he “felt great pain” seeing the wheelchairs piled up in warehouses.
"We want to deliver a message to the world," he said. "What is the impediment to the entrance of these wheelchairs into Gaza and reaching the children? The humanitarian aid must not stop. This is part of the stubbornness of the other side by not letting in this aid, the wheelchairs being only a part of it."

For more than two months, I have been working on a truly horrific story about one of the gravest war crimes committed by the United States since Vietnam: The bombing of the Shajareh Tayyebeh school in Minab, Iran. It was one of the first targets struck in the opening hours of the war on February 28, 2026.
At least 156 people were killed in the U.S. cruise missile strikes—120 of them were children and 26 were teachers. We spoke to survivors, first responders, parents, doctors, teachers, psychologists, and other witnesses. Some of them had never before shared their experiences of that day.
It would be impossible to do justice to what happened in Minab that day with words alone. In more than 25 years in journalism and reporting on war, I do not believe I have reported on a more heinous single crime.

The elimination project is implemented not only through killing, violence, and the expulsion of shepherding communities. It also works through the gradual erosion of the conditions needed to sustain Palestinian life.
Sometimes, closing a single gate is enough to disrupt daily life, cut a community off from its surroundings and land, and make continued life there increasingly difficult.
For decades, Israel has developed an extensive system of movement restrictions that allows it to control Palestinian movement and bring daily life to a halt at a moment’s notice. The system includes checkpoints, gates at the entrances to villages, roads from which Palestinians are barred, and a permit regime that determines where Palestinians can travel.
Since October 2023, Israel has intensified its use of this infrastructure, imposing increasingly severe movement restrictions. As of the end of 2025, 925 movement obstacles have been documented in the West Bank. More than 200 checkpoints and roadblocks have been added over the past three years, and at least half of the movement obstacles block or delay travel between Palestinian cities and villages and major roads.
A gate that is closed without prior notice can prevent a worker from reaching their workplace, a child from getting to school, a patient from reaching a hospital, and a farmer from reaching their land. A journey of a few minutes can turn into hours, and no one knows whether a road that was open in the morning will still be open on the way back.
Thus, Israel controls not only space, but also time and the ability to maintain a normal routine. It separates communities, cuts people off from their land and sources of livelihood, and turns uncertainty into a permanent condition.
Movement restrictions are a central mechanism of the Elimination Project. They fragment Palestinian space into isolated enclaves, while enabling continuous movement and presence for Jews. In this way, they undermine Palestinians’ ability to exist as an independent collective and reinforce Jewish supremacy in the West Bank.

Over the past three years multiple organizations including Amnesty, UN bodies and scholars have highlighted the unprecedented levels of destruction inflicted by Israeli forces in the occupied Gaza Strip.
Now Google has updated the publicly available images for some neighbourhoods to February 2026 and the horrifying extent of this destruction is available for all to see. The chilling satellite imagery shows entire neighbourhoods across the Gaza Strip have been completely wiped out.
According to the UN Satellite Centre (UNOSAT) around 82% of all structures in the Gaza Strip have been damaged and two thirds of these destroyed in an area less than half the size of New York City. At least 1.4 million Palestinians in Gaza have been displaced and grapple with harsh living conditions.
These scenes of destruction are a chilling testament to Israel’s ongoing campaign of systematic wanton destruction in Gaza documented by Amnesty.
The sheer scale of the devastation points to a deliberate pattern by Israeli authorities of razing civilian areas and rendering them uninhabitable as part of their ongoing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza. This must end now.
Israel must allow shelter and reconstruction material and equipment into Gaza and ensure people internally displaced can return to their lands, including to areas behind the so-called yellow line.
