Catching up on some local news I missed earlier this week. Islington’s suspension figures deserve attention, especially for Black Caribbean and mixed White and Black Caribbean pupils. Schools must be safe, but we also need earlier support and to understand the disparity.

What does this even mean, Zack? I’ll be the first to admit Labour got it wrong on Palestine. We made serious mistakes and paid the price in many places. Both Andy and Ed have openly acknowledged those failures and taken clear steps to address them, with more to come. But your motion advocates a one-state solution that would mean Israel ceasing to exist. That isn’t supported by most Palestinians, including the most senior Palestinian diplomat in the UK. This is precisely WHY Labour has taken the position it has.
"Even voters who know little about Palestine will struggle to understand why Labour is turning on its own local administrations. The impression it creates is not of a party that’s been renewed as a force for ‘hope’, but of one that remains petty, vindictive and self-serving."

New JRF modelling suggests inflation-linked rent controls could cut the cost of relinking housing support to rents by £1.1bn in 2030/31. With average Islington rents now £2,868 a month, this deserves serious examination alongside more affordable homes. jrf.org.uk/housing/how-rent-…

Good to be out campaigning in Holborn and St Pancras yesterday. Especially good to see members from @IslingtonNorth and @IslingtonSouth campaigning together. We are one borough, and there’s real value in working together across both CLPs. Great to support @Sagal_AW 🌹

Housing is about more than building new homes. We also need to regenerate existing homes and neighbourhoods, tackle poor conditions and empty properties, and help people feel proud of where they live. Yesterday reinforced that. labour.org.uk/updates/storie…

Powerful speech from Andy Burnham today. Big ideas, difficult choices and a real sense of purpose about where the country needs to go next. You could feel the emotion in the room. Hope again. 🌹 @UKLabour

The Chancellor's announcement at #Lab26 today that he will restore the Union Learning Fund represents an investment in all workers. The ULF gave hundreds of thousands of workers the chance gain skills and qualifications. The Tories scrapped it, but the Labour Government is bringing it back. Now thousands more workers can learn new skills to unlock new opportunities and keep pace with changing technologies. Read our reaction: 🔗gmblondon.org.uk/news/union-…

Falling pupil numbers are a growing challenge for London’s schools, particularly here in Islington. This isn’t simply an education issue. Housing affordability, changing demographics and the future of our community schools are all connected. A good read. ft.com/content/5b019594-5b20…

Amazing energy here in Holborn and St Pancras - supporting our candidate, Sagal Abdi-Wali. Sagal’s story is London's story: if you work hard, and get a helping hand - you can achieve anything. On October 8 - #VoteLabour 🌹

Sagal is a British citizen who has dedicated her life to public service. She is the elected leader of Camden council, a community where she grew up and has lived for 35 years. I am proud to have worked with Sagal, she embodies the best of our values. She is a volunteer, school governor, serves her community with dedication and is an outstanding example of British success. This kind of social media post is dangerous and insulting. It ignores Sagal’s hard work and talents and the achievements of many people like her. Proud British citizens with roots abroad teach in our schools, care for the elderly, work in our NHS, start businesses and contribute so much to their communities and the country they love.
The front runner being foisted on the people of Holborn by Labour to replace the former Prime Minister Keir Starmer in our Parliament was born in Somalia. Do you understand what’s happening?

I grew up in a council home, so I know just how important they are. With £6 billion in funding for more affordable homes, we can transform the lives of thousands of Londoners across our city ⬇️
