update on qirc vs the sota circuit optimizers:
on all 26 of quarl's benchmark circuits, same input files:
qirc 39.6% fewer gates, 36.3% fewer cnots
quarl (rl, gpu-hours per circuit) 35.2 / 32.5
so yes, we beat quarl. (19+2=5- on 26 circuits)
the trick that mattered most: commuting gates through whole subcircuits by tracking them as sparse pauli sums
one toffoli ladder (barenco_tof_10) goes from 236 gates (quarl) to 188
fine print: the nam suite was my dev set, and quarl pre-trained on 6 of these circuits too
next: head to head with qsymb, exact arithmetic for the oracle, then a paper :3
and against queso (best non-learned tool in the same paper) at 31.0%: we win 24 of 26
deterministic, no search, seconds per circuit on a laptop cpu
on 152 circuits it never saw during dev: fewer gates than tzap on 128, fewer cnots on 126
it's time for a serious project update on qirc:
on the exact benchmark files quartz & quarl used, it cuts ~36% of gates in ~1s on a cpu -- quartz does 29.1%, full guoq does 29.1% with 10 mins per circuit, tzap does 29.8%
we might or might not be beating quarl as well, more details coming soon...
