Meet Safaa, who resides in Jordan’s Baqa'a Camp with her family. As a mother and former nutritionist, Safaa wanted to create a business that would ensure her financial independence and set her children up for a successful future. Her business? She makes healthy products — with the star being her tried and true granola recipe, made with natural sweeteners that families on the go can enjoy. Her venture started about a year ago but has since grown significantly with support from Anera’s Women Can program, our initiative to scale businesses owned by Palestinian women throughout Jordan, Lebanon, and Palestine. Our team provided her with the necessary machinery, including an oven and an industrial mixer, to scale production. At its heart, this is a family business — one that involves her daughters, who help with packaging; her husband, who manages inventory for long-distance orders; and, of course, Safaa, who perfected her recipes through trial and error. Safaa’s story is just one of many from our Women Can program. Learn more on our website: anera.org/about-aneras-women…

When a piece of shrapnel struck five-year-old Shadia's neck, there was discussion that she may never be able to move again. Soon after, she was sent to one of Anera's health clinics in Gaza, supported by Tearfund, where the team assessed her condition and laid out a comprehensive plan to begin her healing. Lebanon’s hospitals are overwhelmed, and every second lost can cost a life. Anera delivered 52 boxes of vital emergency supplies, including oxygen masks, resuscitation bags, and burn dressings, to 8 frontline hospitals to give emergency teams the exact tools they need to act fast. This is part of our ongoing effort across Lebanon, Palestine and Jordan to ensure medical teams have what they need to operate efficiently and help families in need.

Anera is supporting aspiring nurses in Lebanon. Through a nursing scholarship program at the Imam Sadr Foundation’s Al-Afaq Development Institute in Tyre, Anera is supporting 10 students from families who cannot afford to continue their education. The scholarships cover their full nursing studies, giving students the opportunity to focus on their education without placing an additional financial burden on their families. Seven students will continue into their second year, while three will advance to their third year. Lebanon faces a shortage in healthcare workers, and this program is here to equip the next generation of healthcare workers with the skills they need to serve their community. Anera’s latest report examines the collapse of education in Gaza, and what has been lost with it: not just classrooms, but the routines, relationships, and sense of possibility that school once gave children. And the psychological toll is profound. Children have endured repeated displacement, loss and violence, while teachers are coping with their own trauma even as they try to support students. The question remains: What’s next for Gaza’s education system? Rebuilding will not happen in a single step and it cannot wait for one. Anera’s assessment, together with the priorities identified by the Palestinian Ministry of Education points to a three-phase approach: stabilize, recover next and rebuild for the long term, with work on all three fronts starting now rather than in sequence. The first phase is about survival, not curriculum. Every recommendation from Anera’s education assessment starts in the same place: safety, basic services and supported teachers are the non-negotiable entry points for any education intervention. Today marks World Teachers' Day, an annual UNESCO thematic day recognizing the essential role that teachers worldwide play in creating opportunities and hopeful futures for the next generation. In Gaza, teachers are navigating devastation. Gaza’s education system has been devastated: over 95% of schools have been destroyed since October 2023, many have been converted into shelters, and more than 1,000 teachers and 18,000 children have lost their lives in the past two years. Additionally, 90% of Gaza’s population, including most teachers, has been displaced. Even after the ceasefire in October 2025, barriers to education remain, with humanitarian aid and school supplies still struggling to reach the region. Anera ensures that teachers in Gaza and beyond have the resources they need to nourish young minds, from temporary learning spaces in Gaza and building kindergartens in the West Bank to training teachers in Lebanon and providing computers in Jordan. Support teachers, students and families in need today. Donate at: anera.org/support-families-x

Girls in Lebanon who face financial hardship, especially in refugee communities, may not be able to attend school. Some are at risk of forced early marriage. The SAWA Project, an initiative between Anera and NAOS, helps girls stay in school. The program includes activities that promote self-worth and nourish dreams through psychologist-led activities. This is part of our broader commitment to safeguarding education. Learn more on our website: anera.org/what-we-do/educati…

Fatima's family is one of the few from Gaza that have been able to evacuate for medical care. In Jordan, her daughter finally received the life-saving care she needed. But Fatima's son, Mohammad, struggled to adjust after years of living in survival mode. In Gaza, he fought through crowds to collect drinking water for the family. In Jordan, those survival instincts followed him into the classroom, where he became aggressive with classmates and frequently ran out of class. Gradually, with support from mental health professionals and his mother, he regained his confidence and began interacting more positively with his peers. From their arrival in Jordan, Anera is ensuring that family's like Fatima's receive the care they need, including psychosocial support, education continuity, and ongoing humanitarian assistance. For many Palestinian children in the West Bank, access to early childhood education remains limited, particularly in communities affected by movement restrictions and violence. This can have devastating consequences, such as missed days of learning. Anera builds and rehabilitates kindergartens to bring quality early learning closer to children and their families. These spaces give young children the chance to build confidence, develop essential social and learning skills, and experience the simple joys of childhood. This particular school was recently established by our team in Jalazone. Meet Nehayah! She lives in one of Jordan’s Palestinian refugee camps and is part of Anera’s WeCan project, our initiative that supports micro-businesses across Palestine, Jordan and Lebanon. Our role is to deliver the training and materials each business owner needs to create a thriving livelihood. Nehayah runs a small-scale nursery that provides a safe and nurturing environment for children while their mothers are at work. Committed to inclusive care, Nehayah also welcomes children with disabilities, ensuring they have a supportive space to learn and grow. Looking ahead, she hopes to renovate and improve the nursery to make the environment even more child-friendly, accessible and engaging for all the children in her care. 🏫 Children are back in school, but in places like the West Bank, extra support is required for a fruitful school year. 🎒Anera recently provided 200 backpacks, each containing essential school supplies, to students in the Ramallah and Al Bireh Governorate. 📖 This is one of the many ways Anera supports Palestinian education in the West Bank. ✏️ Learn more on our website: anera.org/priorities/early-c…

Amidst Lebanon’s economic crisis, the cost of a wheelchair can be out of reach for many families. For someone who needs one, this financial barrier can restrict daily activities. With support from Free Wheelchair Mission, Anera received 520 wheelchairs to help people access something essential: mobility, independence and greater freedom in their daily lives. The wheelchairs are being distributed throughout Lebanon, including in Palestinian refugee camps, where resources are severely limited. We want to say thank you. Whether you’ve been an Anera supporter since last week or have been with us for decades, you are part of our community and we could not do this work without you. Here are some of our recent accomplishments from Gaza that you made possible: 1) Two reverse osmosis units were installed in Gaza and Khan Younis that will deliver safe drinking water to thousands of people 2) We’ll be renovating two kindergartens in addition to continuing our work in temporary learning centers 3) We’re able to support 57 micro-businesses in Gaza through our WeCan project to help families generate income 4) We continue to serve thousands of food parcels and fresh vegetables, including more than 8,000 food parcels distributed from August 19- September 10 5) Within that same time frame, our healthcare team provided 5,298 consultations, including primary healthcare, maternal and child health, nutrition, MHPSS, reproductive health, and chronic disease management We hope for a day when such work is not necessary and that Palestinians can live a life with dignity and prosperity. Until then, we will continue to do what we know how to do best: serve those in need. You help us make it possible, whether that be through a donation, a fundraiser you host, or sharing a post like this on social media. The past four years have been challenging, an understatement, but hope is what gets us through. We want to share a quote from one of our dear team members, Suad, that reminds us of our guiding principles: “Only here in Gaza: in the midst of death, we live. When our eyes are full of tears, we smile. To the sounds of bombing, we sing. In our grief, we recall memories that lift us up. We know that to truly live, we need brave hearts, clear minds, and beautiful, kind souls.” Thank you, let’s keep going. In friendship, The team at Anera

In Gaza, the majority of water infrastructure has been destroyed. With support from Anera’s community, our team was able to install a water desalination station in Gaza City. Every day, the station produces safe drinking water, serving approximately 2,500 people. This is just one of the ways your support helps us provide relief to those in Gaza and beyond. 💧
