#OnThisDay - August 27th 1986 The Mighty Van Halen play the Veterans Memorial Coliseum in New Haven, Connecticut. In November ‘86, that concert was released as the ‘Live Without A Net’ home video. The band needs to release a deluxe whatever of the entire unedited show! Please!! (Ad is real. Not AI. From Billboard Nov. ‘86)

40 years ago today — August 27, 1986 — #VanHalen took the stage in New Haven, Connecticut, and cameras were rolling. That night became #LiveWithoutaNet, one of the greatest concert videos ever. Happy 40th anniversary to LWAN! 🤘 Remember your first time watching?

Don’t EVER. Allow anyone. To cut down a healthy tree. Not ANYWHERE. Ever.
On a hot July day, a single mature tree in your yard pumps somewhere around 100 gallons of water up from its roots and out through its leaves as water vapor. A mature elm with 150,000 leaves can clear that in a day. As that water evaporates off the leaf surface, it carries heat away with it, the same basic physics that makes sweat work. The air around the canopy drops measurably. The cooling effect of a single large tree transpiring 100 gallons of water is roughly equivalent to two household air conditioning units running all day. Except it runs on sunlight and groundwater, costs nothing, and has been doing it since before your house was built. A yard with mature canopy runs 5 to 10 degrees cooler than a paved or treeless yard next door. That's not a feeling. It's a physics difference you can measure with a thermometer. The urban heat island is real, and it gets worse one removed tree at a time. The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago. The second best time is this weekend, before another hot ass July like this one comes around.

We must not repeat mistakes of the past and bring yet more species into degrading farm practices Compassion, respect and kinship should be at the forefront of how we treat fellow creatures with whom we share this beautiful planet No octopus nor any sentient creature, should ever be #factoryfarmed psychologytoday.com/gb/blog/…

#OnThisDay in 1989, Blue Murder (featuring John Sykes, Tony Franklin and Carmine Appice) released their self titled debut album. Produced by Bob Rock, it features singles Jelly Roll and Valley of the Kings. Although it only reached #69 on the Billboard charts, its a gem! #80s

said this a million times but Apple are idiots for not doing a 25th anniversary iPod this year clickwheel, multiple colors, Apple Music, Bluetooth and AirPods support, a good DAC and storage up to 2 TB just to appease the audiophiles — boom, you have the product of Christmas 26
Gen Z and parents favor old-school tech like iPods and digital cameras for a simpler, less plugged-in life: 'People are just sick of it' trib.al/5jaxgnn

Destroying the @InternetArchive's @WayBackMachine would be the equivalent of the burning of the Library of Alexandria - one of the worst losses of knowledge in history. Media giants are now threatening to do this. We can't let this happen. Pass it on.

Reading is her only hobby and Amazon destroyed it - and many other people’s working Kindles - so they could make you buy a new one and pump it full of ads.

They removed CD/DVD drives from devices. They made physical media harder to buy and use. They removed expandable storage from phones. They pushed us into streaming subscriptions. They made always-online normal. They made unlimited internet necessary. Then slowly raised the price of everything. Ownership quietly became renting.

Been out on a litter pick this afternoon. If you throw litter out of your car window, you are a prick. Simple as. Rich or poor, left or right. There’s nothing political about it. No defence for it. No “misunderstanding”. Just deliberately shitting on the country we all live in.

On John Williams’ 94th birthday, it’s my obligation- my civic duty- to post the binary sunset from Star Wars: A New Hope. This singular moment captures everything that Williams means to me. The integrity of his music is what makes it last forever. Cinema is John Williams 🎂.

NEW: Our investigation for @thenerve_news reveals not only that Peter Thiel’s Palantir is completely enmeshed in our critical national infrastructure. It’s also the ‘cloud support’ for our nuclear weapons system 1/

Everyone talks about "Eruption," but for me, Eddie’s real genius was the rhythm work. That "brown sound" groove is impossible to fake. Spinning his entire catalog today. Happy Birthday to the man who made us all want to pick up a six-string. Long live the King!!

I’m sorry to ruin your day but the entire concept of a “time machine” is retarded. Location is never discussed. The sun is moving through space WHILE planets orbit. Go back 10yrs from current spot? You floating in space somewhere, insta-dead. Need time AND space machine. Sorry
