This is the hottest we have ever observed.
The Mediterranean is now completely outside all previous records. We have never measured this level of heat across the basin at any time of year.
It is only July. We usually see the annual maximum in August.

The Mediterranean Sea is heading into uncharted territory. The recent powerful “heat dome” over southern Europe has led to an extremely rapid warming of the waters in the western part of the bassin, with SSTs now exceeding 30°C off the coast of southern Italy.

NEW: 85 people in Arizona suffered severe burns from contact with pavements heated up to 180F (82C). 7 of them died. In total, 257 people had underlying cause of death listed as "exposure to excessive natural heat".
This is not a forecast for 50 years time, it’s happening today.

New 2023 World highest temperature was set yesterday in Iran:
51.8C at Shahdad ,Kerman Province, in the Dash-el-Lut desert.
Next days more countries can reach 50C in the Middle East and possibly Mexico.
