This is heartbreaking. I enjoyed working with Ryan and respected him deeply. He was an incredibly strong man, a champion of fairness and transparency in journalism, and led the team through the chaos of COVID. Praying for the Hazelwood family & @KOAA
The KOAA News5 family is heartbroken to share the news of Ryan Hazelwood’s passing. Ryan Hazelwood was the News Director at KOAA News5 from 2017 to 2024, but he was so much more than that:

Single family home permits are still UP for the year, but they're trending down. YTD totals are at 2,217 new homes, up 2% compared to this time last year. We'll see what happens in October. #housing #housingmarket #housingcrisis #newhouse #construction #homebuilding

Victor Marx and Phil Weiser are appearing onstage right now for the only scheduled time before the Nov. 3 election at a Colorado Chamber of Commerce Event. The candidates got the questions in advance and Mr. Marx is reading his answers in part from notes he brought. #copolitics

A must-read thread! Housing affordability is a major issue facing Coloradans today. Erik describes a concept here that our elected leaders should consider if we're serious about building more starter homes. @jillgaebler wrote a column about just a few months ago. 1/
Zoning is probably the biggest issue. In most places lots have a MINIMUM size mandate, and a minimum width mandate. Most R1 districts mandate 80 to 100ft of frontage. No one is going to buy a lot that size and put a 1200 sq ft house on it.

I applaud @PhilForColorado for their goal of 40,000 new units statewide. But in December, the @CityofCOS reported that we're 27,000 units short today! They project we'll need 60,000 units in our city alone in the next decade. coloradosprings.gov/news/new… /13

This problem will not go away soon. We must keep having these conversations if we're going to make any substantive improvement. /End
