Democrats weren't always against cutting wasteful government programs or reducing the number of federal employees. That's the topic of my latest column on @BroadAndLiberty, "Ghosts of Government Cuts Past."

For those screaming about inflation over the past month, there’s this.
The average 30-year mortgage rate has dropped for the fifth consecutive week, hitting an eight-week low. Here’s what it means for prospective homebuyers. fox29.com/news/mortgage-rate…
For those who think it's the end of democracy and SCOTUS is rigged, illegitimate, etc. Read this. It might help .
I think they get it exactly right, and Politico isn't exactly a right-wing organization.
Here's the bottom line: "But as with all things Trump, he is both his best advocate and worst enemy. The Trump administration may have made a conscious political decision to engage in “shock and awe,” but it has undermined its own legal agenda by proceeding too aggressively, too quickly and too haphazardly."

Now, here's a good thing that Democrats once supported as Clinton must have signed into law (1996). But does anybody really believe illegals aren't getting federal benefits?

Okay, I get the part about conflict of interests. But then how can one person be both a government contractor and a government employee?
Just sayin'

Good, @DOGE gets 3 wins because it is an agency. How could it not be, DEPARTMENT of Government Efficiency.
But with great power comes great responsibility. @realDonaldTrump and @elonmusk, you have to be transparent and follow the rules of disclosure as you promised.

So here's the curious part; how is it that the ONLY "news" organization to notice this "breach" was The Huffington Post? I NEVER cite Fox News as a source. Therefore, I won't accept The Huffington Post either.
On the other hand, I expect @realDonaldTrump and @elonmusk to be transparent. So, demonstrate this material was previously made available by the Biden administration - or that Huffington got it by some nefarious means.

This Substack column by Matt Taibbi is too important not to share. My Republican friends will read it and shake their heads knowingly. I implore my Democrat friends to read it with an open mind and just the slightest introspection.

New column at @BroadAndLiberty, "Stuck in the Middle." It's about the unusual position I find myself in. I'm a Trump voter who supports most of his goals. But I'm not okay with everything happening.

Tuesday I said Trump’s comments about owning Gaza was stupid and the nation-building w/ the US military in the Middle East was a bad idea. I also predicted it would be walked back pretty quickly. Less than 24 hours later, here’s The NYT.

This is the best explanation of the problem with shuttering USAID has been done.

MAGA friends, I'm a Trump voter, but I need you to explain what happened today. I thought the plan was less international adventures. I didn't take the Greenland stuff seriously. The Canada stuff is silly & unproductive. I get the Panama Canal. Explain to me why Trump wants to do nation-building in the Gaza Strip.
Which part of this sounds like a good idea?

This is, without question, the best explanation of what happened over the Potomac Wednesday night. It was shared with me by somebody with a military background who flies and teaches pilots.
It's worth your time, but be aware that it's very sad. I choked up several times while watching it.

The supposed Elon Musk Nazi salute is a complete media creation. Somebody needs to go frame-by-frame through all the DNC video. They'd find Democrats in the same pose.
But if the ADL isn't worked up about it, why is anybody else?
This is a delicate moment. It’s a new day and yet so many are on edge. Our politics are inflamed, and social media only adds to the anxiety.
It seems that @elonmusk made an awkward gesture in a moment of enthusiasm, not a Nazi salute, but again, we appreciate that people are on edge.
In this moment, all sides should give one another a bit of grace, perhaps even the benefit of the doubt, and take a breath. This is a new beginning. Let’s hope for healing and work toward unity in the months and years ahead.
@elonmusk If you look at Walz’s DNC speech frame by frame, you can catch him in the “nazi salute” as he comes out, again at about 23:20 and then the last frame before they cut away. More so, his son, “that’s my dad.” can be caught in the pose as he’s standing up. Anybody can be made to look bad talking one frame out of context.
Giving credit where credit is due, Nate Silver has the best summation of the Biden administration that I've read. It's long but accurate - and this was before his last-minute pardons.
