Fun game. Greg tried to hit me after I hit a Braves player in May. Payback 4 months later. Can’t believe he missed me w the size of my backside. Eddie Perez (C) told umpire Maddux had been having control problems. 😂
9/18/98 - Behind @AndyBenes40's (14-13) stellar 8inn., 3H, 0R, 3BB, 4K, 109np start (Embree: .2inn., 2H, 1BB; @GreggOlson30: .1inn., 3np), the expansion AZ #DBacks shut out Greg Maddux (6.1inn., 10H, 5R, 4ER, 3BB, 9K, 107np) and the ATL Braves, 5-0. Andy Fox: 2H/2R/2K.
So proud of this guy. He was amazing and a fighter from start to finish. Remember getting that call and excitement for his debut! @Cardinals #Family
#OTD 1995 - Alan Benes makes his major league debut with the Cardinals at Three River Stadium.

What a tragic day in our history. Pure evil. Remembering the lives lost, families torn apart, heroic actions by many and the selfless service of the responders. Praying for God to Bless our Nation and for our nation to turn to Him. 🙏🏻
9/11/99 - On "Turn Ahead the Clock Night" in which the #DBacks' uniforms & in-house sounds were both "futuristic" while the PA announcer sounded like a robot, AZ shut out Philly 4-0 behind @AndyBenes40's dominant start: 8inn., 5H, 0ER, 1BB, 3K. Williams/Bell: 1HR each.
Walt was one of the best at what he did. Beloved!!!
#OTD 2025 - Walt Jocketty was induced (posthumously) into the Cardinals Hall of Fame.
Jocketty’s tenure with the St. Louis Cardinals (1994–2007) was nothing short of transformative - a golden era that reshaped the franchise’s identity and success.
🧠 Visionary Leadership:
• Jocketty was hired as GM in October 1994 and quickly made waves by bringing in manager Tony La Russa, rekindling their Oakland connection.
• He built a front office that blended analytics with old-school scouting, emphasizing both talent and chemistry.
🏆 Achievements:
• 7 NL Central Division titles: 1996, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006
• 2 National League pennants: 2004 and 2006
• 1 World Series championship: 2006 - defeating the Detroit Tigers
🔥 Key Moves:
Jocketty was a master of bold trades and savvy signings:
• Acquired legends like Mark McGwire, Scott Rolen, Jim Edmonds, Larry Walker, Will Clark, Adam Wainwright and Chris Carpenter
• Drafted future icons Albert Pujols and Yadier Molina, laying the foundation for sustained success
🏅 Recognition:
• Named Executive of the Year three times (2000, 2004, 2010)
• Inducted into the St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Fame, honoring his legacy
⚾ Legacy:
Jocketty’s Cardinals were known for their consistency, winning culture, and star power. His partnership with La Russa was one of the most effective GM-manager duos in modern baseball. Even after his departure in 2007, the blueprint he left behind continued to shape the team’s identity.

Great memories of Benes Brothers starting pitchers vs each other. Result was really secondary. Has Happened Only 8-9 times @MLB history. Nice to be in that elite group. #Blessed
#OTD 2002 - The Cardinals beat the Cubs 11-2‚ as brothers Andy and Alan Benes oppose each other in only the 7th matchup of brothers in major league history.
Andy gets the win while Alan takes the loss, as the Cards score all 11 of their runs in the 3rd inning.

Love it @indyindians
AB1, AB2, AB3. Love my family and so very proud of PC @DrewBenes
Amazing series. So much respect for @Yankees and Donnie Baseball. We grew up in same hometown in IN and always a huge fan of his and loved the way he played the game. One of the best. Should be HOF’er

Also, you were on the winning end of my first Yankees playoff run in ‘95.I was there when Mattingly hit the HR game 2 off you. I remember the sick feeling still at 23 years old when Griffey scored the winning run in game 5. That must have been awesome for you and Seattle 😟🥲🤢
I had the privilege of being there big fella. It was awesome to be teammate and friend. Unbelievable talent, and super fun to watch. Your teammates were so impressed w your ability and maturity at such a young age @Cardinals
Love it!!!
Joe, my friend, that’s the problem. These young talented guys as starting pitchers have to learn how to navigate that. It’s for their own good in their development. And how do you do that if not given the chance. You learn thru adversity. Lost opportunity to grow, imo.
Super tough on families. My wife was pregnant w 4th. Had gone 2 dinner after day game and got call I was traded at 7pm. Cleaned out locker of 6 years around 10am next morning (said some goodbyes) and was only back at house 1 time before late October. Mama left to hold down fort

I imagine it can be very difficult, especially for a young couple with kids. Uprooting is never easy under normal circumstances, I can only think how much more difficult it would be when done with no warning - and no input to where you'll land.
31 yrs ago today I got traded from SD to Sea. Bittersweet after 6yrs w team that drafted me but excitement for new opportunity. Leaving home and friends for the unknown. Many emotions will surface for those traded but never know what future holds. Embrace what lies ahead!
Super fun moment. Only happened 8 times in 14 seasons. Memorable. @Dbacks
7/22/99 - One day after Tony Womack's Inside the Park Grand Slam, @AndyBenes40 became the 1st pitcher in #DBacks hist. to hit more than one HR in his career w/the franchise when he hit his 2nd w/AZ leading off the 3rd inn. (off Jose Lima) in a 2-1 Arizona win at the Houston Astr
What a Derby. Amazing finish. MLB won tonight. J Walk in the clutch @Cardinals @MLB
