The Senate's bipartisan permit reform bill would upend the National Environmental Policy Act and also weaken the Endangered Species Act, the Clean Water Act, and the National Historic Preservation Act. My legal analysis: scholarship.law.columbia.edu…

The dam removals that get the most press tend to be superlative western ones, like the Klamath & Elwha—big rivers, big fish. For @bioGraphic, I wrote about the equally vital, under-the-radar projects restoring eastern streams, one old mill dam at a time.

Our Clinic was thrilled to partner with Ben on comments in defense of the Roadless Rule. I have been working on Roadless issues since the beginning. The Rule made sense 25 years ago and it makes sense today. Tell USFS to preserve the Rule!
This is more activisty than I usually get, but these are weird times.
In collab with Harvard's Env Law & Policy Clinic, I authored a letter objecting to rescission of the #RoadlessRule, made public here so that you can draw upon it in your own comments.

Lord of Life, You have given us the gift of water, source of fruitfulness, freshness, and hope. It quenches thirst, nourishes the earth, and heals wounds. We see with pain so many brothers and sisters who lack clean water, who walk for miles to find it, who become ill due to its scarcity. Forgive us for turning it into a commodity, forgetting that it is a universal gift, a right without borders, meant for all your children. Let’s #PrayTogether at popesprayer.va/praywiththepo…

It is with deep concern that I am following the developments in Venezuela. The good of the beloved Venezuelan people must prevail over every other consideration. This must lead to the overcoming of violence, and to the pursuit of paths of justice and peace. I pray for all this, and I invite you to pray too, entrusting our prayer to the intercession of Our Lady of Coromoto, and to Saints José Gregorio Hernández and Carmen Rendiles. #PrayTogether

It’s not a “buyout”. Media keeps calling it a “buyout” but that’s not the offer. Their offer is to get public servants to agree now to resign in the fall, but they keep working full time virtually & get paid for the work. That’s not a “buyout”. I can think of another word though.
