It’s not just “go home & walk”
Home based walking exercise does work if done right. Coaching & connecting with patients is also crucial.
It was incredible to have Dr McDermott & @CardioNeela , the lead authors of the article, join the discussion!

Poster session at #SVM22. Chronically immobile patients with DVT = high rates of bleeding while on AC, high rates of recurrence once off AC. A true clinical dilemma (photo cred to @Angiologist) @DKadiandodov @kush_r_desai @GParmar_MD @LebenTefera @bbikdeli

Are you considering low dose rivaroxaban for a PAD patient? Know the exclusion criteria from COMPASS and VOYEGER-PAD. For instance 10 days post revascularization @DKadiandodov @SVM_tweets @AndrewDicksMD @IhsanKaadanMD @LebenTefera @GParmar_MD #SVM22

Why is UNILATERAL RENAL ARTERY STENOSIS rarely an indication for intervention?
@GParmar_MD teaches the mechanism usually includes VOLUME OVERLOAD which requires BILATERAL disease.
CARDIORENAL syndrome? different.

I spent 10+ hours preparing a talk for #SIR22 on MEDICATION FOR VENOUS DISEASE. Save yourself the time, and read a summary here:

MEDICAL THERAPY FOR POST-THROMBOTIC SYNDROME?
@MonikaGloviczki offers a great overview at @MGHVascular Venous Conference. @GParmar_MD @AndrewDicksMD @LebenTefera
Another excellent vascular medicine JC in the books. Thanks to @AJTafur for discussing the use of Caprini score in trauma patients and @CapriniJoseph, @GBarnesMD, @Angiologist, and others for the excellent discussion!
thrombosisresearch.com/artic…
My takeaways:
-Caprini score can be used in trauma patients (and likely many other patient populations)
-The risk of VTE does not increase linearly as the Caprini score increases; as such, it should be viewed as an ordinal variable, not a linear one

If most patients do well, why frequent repeat imaging (unless symptoms)? @AndrewDicksMD
I tell patients (and document): "I am following common practice, but management change is RARE". Most still want imaging. @MarkELindsay @DKadiandodov #SVM21

When @GBarnesMD publishes on VTE prophylaxis in #COVID19 in @JAMANetworkOpen, then @AndrewDicksMD and I get to write the editorial:

On the docket for next month - @MitchWeinbergMD will be leading VMJC on a topic that I know you will want to learn about! As always, if you are interested in joining, please DM either myself or @Angiologist.
Another excellent vascular medicine journal club. This time around, we had @VladLakhter presenting on long term outcomes from BPA for CTEPH. Great discussion with @GBarnesMD @vikasaggarwalmd @anjalivaidyaMD @haseebqazi @ASchmaier @EricSecemskyMD @adityasharmamd

Could not agree more! My experiences as a resident @BIDMChealth with #BrettCarroll and @EricSecemskyMD opened my eyes to what VM is and what it can be.
We've been bleesed with a supportive division, a fantastic leader in #BrettCarroll, & clear demonstration of the value a VM program brings to a division. Also multi-speciality programs like our lymphedema, aortic, & PE programs represent the new age in medicine.
#VascMedJC
And obviously my experience over the past year with @Angiologist, @krosenfieldMD, @DougDrachmanMD at @MGHVascular have solidified that VM was definitely the right choice!

SUPER SPECULATIVE, but we (@ghoshhajra @drmalissawood @AndrewDicksMD) have been seeing MANY more dissections (visceral, cervical, coronary)
@MGHVascular.
Some patients have #COVID history.
Anyone else? @SVM_tweets
