There is no “golden era of F1”. There are good individual seasons slapped between mediocre to passable seasons that contain a great race or two and that’s only sometimes. The list of actual great races to boring ones is so skewed it’s not even funny

A new Signals and Threads, this one discussing memory management with the inimitable Stephen Dolan. The discussion was wide-ranging and enormously fun. I learned a ton!

My yearly post on what the interns did this year. Some fun stuff! A library for writing Wireshark dissectors in OCaml, simulated annealing for sharding trading systems, and working on a complex migration for a deprecated regexp library.

I don't have time to maintain github.com/PiPHP/GPIO anymore (PHP library for the Raspberry Pi). It needs a bit of TLC and, as it still attracts interest from users, I plan on marking it inactive. If anyone would be interested in maintaining it instead, please let me know :)
Just found out John Conway died due to complications from COVID-19 😢 xkcd.com/2293/ His invention entertained me when I was learning to program. Just done some reading about him, and there is a lot more to remember him for!
If I wanted to design a process that turned a good human into a murderer, I would come up with something similar to what @USPS have designed for their customer care service.

Probably the most profound paragraph about British politics you'll read throughout this whole sorry election campaign. By Robert Crampton in the Sunday Times thetimes.co.uk/article/why-d…
Been reading bits and bobs about this p++ debate. I'm not sure if my example is worth anything to the debate, but I no longer use PHP on any projects. I've switched to Python and migrated our companies existing PHP code bases to Python too. (1/3)
Reasons include the machine learning ecosystem, I find it a better language for non-web development and experience shows it has less "gotchas" for new developers and is generally more predictable. (2/3)
