Speaking of. Arrests are down. Fare-evasion arrests are particularly down. Are summonses effectively replacing arrests? If so, what is the evidence, in the actual crime stats?
Riders are getting sick of this.
If only there was some way to police this...
There is! Enforce the fare. Eject rule violators. Ban face coverings. Lock up recidivists.
It takes policing, and that requires political/mayoral will. Problem* solved.

FDNY SAYS IT:
My office just completed an analysis of FDNY EMS, showing that average response times have increased by 3 min 50 sec for life-threatening medical emergencies and 14 min 49 sec for non-life-threatening emergencies since 2015.
Why are waits getting longer in NYC? Our report points to fewer ambulances in service, growing demand, long hospital turnaround times, traffic—and an EMS workforce struggling with recruitment and retention amid low salaries.
New Yorkers calling 911 in a medical emergency cannot afford to wait longer and longer for help. We need to get more ambulances on the street, strengthen the EMS workforce, and cut the delays that keep crews tied up instead of responding to the next emergency.
NYC's restaurant count just had its biggest drop in decades. Rising costs, but so is access.
Street closures, lost parking, road diets from @NYC_DOT, pushed by @TransAlt @openplans, make it harder for people to reach NYC businesses at all.

BREAKING: The number of restaurants in New York dropped ~2,000 YoY in Q1 2026, posting its largest YoY decline in at least 36 years.
This surpasses even the worst contraction recorded in any quarter during the 2020 pandemic.
The number of eating and drinking places in New York State has now declined YoY for 4 consecutive quarters, its longest streak since 2021.
This comes as restaurants are facing surging operating expenses, including insurance premiums, wages, interest rates, utilities, and health coverage, with overall costs rising faster than national averages.
Last year, employee health insurance costs jumped +12.9% for New York-area service firms, business insurance rose +7.0%, while utility costs surged +8.5%, according to the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce.
Skyrocketing costs are crushing New York restaurants.

The NYPD loves to tell us that subway crime is at our near record lows, leaning heavily on non-violent grand larceny and less heavily on robberies, the two rational crimes. This narrative only works on the NYT and one holdout truther transit bro. NYT and our truther bro still swallow the NYPD line at face value. Every other outlet and transit advocate can and does now parse the subcategory facts for themselves. There is no dispute that serious and deadly violence -- the idea behind "safe" or "safer" or "not safe" -- in transit is higher consistently since before 2020.

That must be the 100 disabled people a day who use yellow WAVs. Where are the other 999,900? We have over 5,000 yellow WAVs who have no disabled customers.

Menindani are in the pockets of the corporations who call the shots. We will still have big corporate entities, just not middle class enterprises like individual taxi medallion owner/drivers, small shops, etc.
BYW, it’s not possible to have a democracy without a middle class.

The middle class is an inconvenience for corporate interests & their handmaidens like Menin & Mamdani. Having to deal with real (not manufactured) community input is so tiresome for them. All that will be left are the privileged few, their fixers & the poors to wipe their as**s.
