My daughter is fourteen. Last night I watched her stand in our kitchen, shrinking into herself, telling her older brother "stop" for the fifth time while he kept going. Laughing. Blocking the doorway. Not touching her, but not letting her leave either.
I saw her face. I know that face. It's the face I made at nineteen, at a party, when I said no and it didn't matter.
I stepped between them and said, "Your sister said stop. Five times. You heard her. Do you know what a boy who doesn't stop when a girl says stop grows up to be? A man who doesn't stop when a woman says no"......

In the last 10-15 yrs, athletes cant even complain abt $, exposure, facilities - GOI (+ bunch of pvt initiatives) today provide them at world-best levels. And there are some insane state payouts for winning medals, somethg v few cntries have. Its mostly all on the athletes..
Exactly. The Commonwealth Games comfort zone completely evaporates when faced with world-class competition at the Asian Games.
The numbers clearly show that sending large contingents just for exposure doesn't yield results:
Weightlifting: Except for Mirabai Chanu's silver, the rest of the contingent stood nowhere against the lifters from China and North Korea.
Fencing: Sent the largest-ever contingent of 20 members, yet returned with absolute zero medals.
Badminton: For the first time in 12 years, India failed to win a single individual medal. Despite having star power like PV Sindhu, Lakshya Sen, and Satwik-Chirag, India managed just 1 Team Bronze.
Equestrian, Kurash, Karate & Teqball: Finished with zero medals, with athletes bowing out in the initial rounds or losing one-sided matches.
Until we move past the complacency of easy medals at CWG and upgrade our technique to match powerhouses like China, Japan, and Korea, the story at the Asiad won't change. We need a shift from mere participation to real competition.

We’re not pretending. We’re just tired of these brown sepoys rubbing it into our faces and stating the obvious. Yes, China is bigger and better. And always will be. I’m sure, so would we, if we had a communist dictator who locked up the Muslim population of roughly 12 million in one part of the country, cracked the whip on dissent, and generally arrested people for not doing their jobs. But I guess we prefer being a chaotic democracy, which slows things down, a bit. It’s a pity we don’t lock up some Opposition leaders permanently for trying to stall progress. Had we done so, this clown would have screamed the loudest that democracy is imperilled.
