Once again, an AI system is not "thinking", it's "processing", "running predictions",... just like Google or computers do. Giving the false impression that technology systems are human is just cheap snake oil and marketing to fool you into thinking it's more clever than it is.

Why does this sound scary as hell?
I’m taking a sabbatical through end of year. First time to relax since co-founding OpenAI 9 years ago. The mission is far from complete; we still have a safe AGI to build.

📣New! Despite its increasing adoption in AI governance and industry circles, the term “sociotechnical” is widely misunderstood. Our new brief aims to remedy that, explaining what a sociotechnical perspective is and why it’s so important in policy. 1/6 datasociety.net/library/a-so…

"Using AI to cut cost" will be the new "chasing scale" for news media. Fundamental biz problem facing news is value creation: people aren't willing to pay attention to, let alone pay for, much of what is published. Doing more of the same more cheaply does nothing to solve that.

Any recent works on the neoliberal takes on wellness/ wellbeing adopted by Silicon Valley and generally the start-up cultures? Interested in the discussion on the optimization of emotions, affect, motivation, and body. 🫶
