The ironic thing about Trump finally declaring that he won’t run for a third term is that it will actually hurt both the Democratic Party and Democratic-aligned media. Trump as a credible political threat is something that drives record viewership and record fundraising. Without the prospect of another Trump campaign, Democrats have to give voters a more substantive reason to support them than simply fighting Trump, which means they have to start promising material changes that conflict with the interests of their corporate funders.

Update: the White House has declassified the full basis for the FBI's probe of Trump as a Russian asset. This investigation, ordered by Andrew McCabe in May 2017, followed July 2016's Crossfire Hurricane, which targeted members of Trump's campaign for a suspected conspiracy with Russia.
The FBI's basis for eyeing Trump as a Russian asset included the manufactured "controversy" over a meaningless edit to the RNC's 2016 platform. The FBI found it suspicious that a Trump campaign member changed some language that called for arming Ukraine, because "this platform change would be favorable to Russian interests."
In reality, the RNC platform committee merely rejected a proposal to endorse “lethal defensive weapons” to Ukraine. The Republicans’ final platform text instead called for “appropriate assistance to the armed forces of Ukraine,” which could easily have included weapons, and was nonetheless far more hawkish than the Democrats’ platform that same summer. And whatever your views on arming Ukraine, is this a legit reason to investigate the sitting president as a Russian asset?
When the FBI answered my FOIA request for this document in December 2024, they completely redacted this. Now that the full version has been released, it's easy to understand why. Their "factual basis" was baseless.
Russiagate news: in response to my FOIA request, the FBI has released a heavily redacted copy of the Electronic Communication that opened the FBI's investigation of then-President Donald Trump as a foreign agent of Russia. It's dated May 16, 2017.
This followed the opening of "Crossfire Hurricane" in July 2016, which targeted members of Trump's campaign. This May 2017 investigation also sought to determine whether Trump "obstructed" that July 2016 investigation and any other "associated" one.
I was most interested to learn the factual basis for the FBI taking the extraordinary step, to put it mildly, of investigating the sitting president as an agent of Russia. But that part is entirely redacted. The document is six pages in total.

Today, a historic mass funeral in Gaza City laid to rest 112 Palestinian civilians from the Abu Sharia and Al-Hasayna families, making it the largest single-event funeral procession in Palestinian history. These victims were killed on November 22, 2023, during a devastating Israeli airstrike that completely leveled a densely populated residential block in al-Sabra neighborhood, claiming the lives of approximately 308 people in total. Because israeli intense military attacks and severe equipment shortages blocked emergency access to the site, the bodies remained trapped under the concrete rubble for over two and a half years. The collective burial finally took place at the Baptist Cemetery following an arduous, days-long recovery operation by the Gaza Civil Defense, drawing thousands of mourners to honor the victims, who included over 40 children and 30 women.
Now ask yourself this: if this had happened anywhere else in the world, would there have been live coverage from the scene? Would journalists from CNN, BBC, MSNBC, CBS, ABC, CBC, Sky News, France 24, or other major international outlets have been broadcasting this funeral to a global audience?
Surely, many a single victim elsewhere could command hours of international coverage. But sorry, the victims are Palestinians and the mainstream media does not even consider them human.
