Africa’s next big healthcare breakthrough could start with an idea!
AMIU was buzzing with innovation as we hosted the Afya Ventures Idea Vetting Session, a programme under the Africa Health Collaborative (AHC), supported by the @MastercardFdn .
Over two days, brilliant young innovators from @AmrefUniversity (AMIU), @uonbi and JKUAT were pitching 40+ bold health innovation ideas to an expert panel drawn from diverse sectors across Kenya.

AMIU, through its Occupational Safety Health Committee and in partnership with St. John Ambulance Kenya, conducted Fire Marshal & Fire Safety Training for staff and students, strengthening fire prevention, emergency response and evacuation skills.

The partners also committed to two-way student and faculty mobility, multi-country research funding drawing on Amref Health Africa's continental presence, and formalising the Canada-Africa Universities Network.

On 25 September , the Amref Health Innovation Hub celebrated its 2026 cohort of founders at AMIU.

At Ruben Health Centre in Nairobi, 49 parents and caregivers of children with disabilities are building stronger financial futures through a Village Savings and Loan Association initiative supported by AMIU and the centre through AHC in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation.
With additional entrepreneurship training, caregivers will be supported to turn pooled resources and business ideas into sustainable enterprises , strengthening their ability to meet household needs including healthcare, nutrition, education and care-related expenses.
When caregivers are economically empowered, families become more resilient, and children with disabilities can have greater opportunities to access the care and support they need.
