Mass deportations, crackdowns, anti-LGBTI+ discrimination and displacement are threatening a safe #WorldCup2026 tournament for all.
Tell #FIFA President Gianni Infantino and host country authorities: make this a World Cup for everyone. #HumanityMustWin

The horrors unfolding in Qusra are far from an isolated incident. They reflect the relentless escalation and expansion of an accelerating and well-documented pattern of coordinated and strategic settler terror.

The public execution of two protesters in Iran today marks a further escalation of authorities’ use of the death penalty to quash dissent. They were sentenced to death following a grossly unfair mass trial that concerned the killing of four police agents as well as allegations of damage to public property and arson. The executions only add to the surge in arbitrary death sentences and executions since the restoration of internet access in May.
We have documented protesters being sentenced to death for offences such as property damage, arson, road blockages and disrupting public opinion, acts that should not carry the death penalty according to international law and standards. Convictions have been issued in closed, grossly unfair proceedings marred by enforced disappearance, torture and other ill-treatment, and denial of access to a lawyer.

Trump's recent threats to target bridges in Iran, if carried out, would have potentially catastrophic consequences for over 90 million people.
We reiterate our call for an enduring and comprehensive regional ceasefire that covers all countries affected by this conflict

It is great that the ICC says it reached a "breakthrough” in its investigation in Darfur. In a report issued last week, Amnesty found that the RSF committed 8 crimes against humanity & ethnic cleansing in North Darfur. It also identified 3 RSF commanders responsible for abuses.
The international community must support accountability efforts in Sudan including the work of the ICC.

The World Cup group stages brought joy to people around the world - but we must not forget about the human rights perspective. While teams went head-to-head in stadiums across Canada, the US and Mexico, ICE arrests doubled, many fans and athletes on the US travel ban list were denied entry to the country to watch the games, and players and fans were victims of racism.
We still have time to make this a World Cup for all, and there must be change beyond the games. Mass detentions and deportations must end, and the US must become a place free from discrimination and hate. We called and continue to call for no fear, no crackdowns and no excuses as we hit the quarter-finals.
Make the World Cup an arena of joy, not fear. Humanity Must Win.

Deeply alarmed by reports that Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya’s life is at imminent risk as a result of torture & other ill treatment he has been suffering while in Israel custody.
Israeli authorities must immediately and unconditionally release Dr. Abu Safiya.
Pending his release, we call on the Israeli Prison service to ensure he is fully protected from abuse, granted urgent adequate medical care and allowed immediate visitation by independent monitors.

Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya was arbitrarily detained on 27 December 2024 by the Israeli military when they raided Kamal Adwan hospital in Mashrou’ Beit Lahiya. Since then, he has been held without charges or trial, under orders that have been indefinitely renewed based on the Unlawful Combatants Law.
On 28 April 2026 an Israeli District Court approved the extension of Abu Safiya’s arbitrary detention under the Unlawful Combatant Law without filing any charges against him.
On 16 June 2026 Israel’s Supreme Court rejected Dr. Abu Safiya’s appeal for his immediate release, upholding the continuation of his arbitrary detention until at least October 2026.
Since 3 June 2026 Abu Safiya is held in solitary confinement exceeding the 15 consecutive days permitted under the Nelson Mandela Rules, which violates the prohibition of torture and other ill-treatment. Authorities are also denying him appropriate care for his health conditions.
@Amnesty is calling for his immediate release. The international community must apply maximum pressure on the Israeli authorities.

Justice for the victims of Syrian President Assad’s mass violations is initiated in Europe:
Two Syrian officers accused of torture and war crimes went on trial in Vienna on Monday after hiding in plain sight in Europe for over a decade, the culmination of a yearslong manhunt by investigators and a groundbreaking case for Austria.

Today’s adoption of the UN's Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy marks an unwanted milestone: it has now been five years – and two consecutive negotiating cycles – with almost no substantive updates, despite continued calls from civil society.
The conflict in Sudan is a war on civilians. 30M+ need aid. Attacks on civilians and the immense suffering & trauma inflicted on children must stop.
