What does it take to turn an ambitious space dream into a practical commercial operation?
During his visit to Christchurch, former aerospace regulator, Kelvin Coleman joined New Zealand aerospace leaders at the New Zealand Aerospace Summit and met with local companies to discuss testing, licensing, safety, and the path from innovation to flight.
The conversation really took off when it came to turning bold ideas into real flights.
As the former head of commercial space transportation at the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration, Kelvin brought firsthand experience of working with both startups and established aerospace companies. His visit marks the strong United States–New Zealand space partnership and innovation.

From the classroom to the lab, New Zealand is using local and United States expertise to build for the future.
Most recently, major U.S. industry figure Kelvin Coleman visited Wellington and Auckland to exchange ideas with space agencies, researchers, students, and industry leaders. Drawing on more than three decades of experience in aerospace and commercial space transportation, he discussed how governments and businesses drive innovation while keeping safety at the center of space activity.
There was plenty of space for big questions, and even bigger ideas.
Thank you to everyone who shared their work and perspectives during Kelvin’s visit. These conversations strengthen both U.S. and New Zealand space communities.

Congratulations to Bridgewest Venture Fund, the recent winner of the Investor of the Year - to or from the USA - Award at the 27th AmCham–DHL Express Success & Innovation Awards, celebrating New Zealand companies succeeding in the United States.
Investment provides companies with more than capital. It can provide expertise, connections, confidence, and the occasional reminder that a spreadsheet can, in fact, contain exciting news.

“Great to join the Southern United States Trade Association delegation recently at Halter’s Auckland headquarters, alongside agricultural leaders from Texas, West Virginia, Arkansas, and Alabama.
The group got a firsthand look at Kiwi ag-tech making real inroads in the United States, including autonomous livestock management and its potential to help bring former mining land back into productive use.
I come from the American Midwest, and technology that means fewer people chasing cows across paddocks sounds like progress to me.
Thanks to Andrew, Tom, and the Halter team for hosting us. The delegation also visited the Port of Auckland and Fonterra, getting a broader look at the innovation and scale behind New Zealand agriculture and trade.
Next stop, seeing Halter in action on-farm and finding out whether the cows and sheep are as impressed as we were.” - U.S. Ambassador Novelly 🇺🇸🇳🇿

I appreciated the opportunity to sit down with Prime Minister Christopher Luxon up in Auckland recently.
New Zealand is a longstanding and valued U.S. partner, and our relationship is built on more than warm words. We’re working together to promote a free and open U.S.-Pacific, strengthen our defense partnership, expand opportunities for American and New Zealand businesses, and deliver practical results across the New Zealand and the Pacific.
It was good to discuss the strength of the U.S.–New Zealand relationship and the opportunities ahead. 🇺🇸🇳🇿

I enjoyed meeting Hon. Jo Luxton, Labour spokesperson for agriculture, biosecurity, and customs recently, for a valuable conversation about the longstanding relationship between the United States and New Zealand.
I’m quickly learning that almost every important conversation in New Zealand eventually comes back to agriculture, and usually for very good reason. We discussed the deep agricultural connections between our countries, the importance of secure trade, and opportunities to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
We also discussed the potential for greater access to fresh U.S. blueberries, which could give New Zealand consumers more choice and help provide affordable, nutritious fruit outside New Zealand’s domestic growing season.
Thanks, Jo, for sharing your perspectives and for the thoughtful discussion. 🇺🇸🇳🇿

What a fantastic evening last week celebrating the people and companies driving the U.S.–New Zealand economic relationship forward at the 2026 AmCham–DHL Express Success & Innovation Awards.
Since arriving in New Zealand, I’ve loved meeting Kiwi business leaders and seeing firsthand their creativity, resilience, and ambition.
These awards do more than recognize success. They highlight the bold ideas, sustained investment, and hard work strengthening ties across the Pacific and inspiring the next generation of entrepreneurs. Overachievers, one and all.
It’s important for Kiwi businesses not to underestimate what they can accomplish in this world, particularly with a little help from their friends. They have friends at the U.S. Embassy, and the United States is open for business.
Special thanks to Minister Mark Mitchell, an overachiever in his own right, for delivering the keynote and making the U.S. delegation feel so welcome.
Congratulations to all the finalists and winners and thank you to AmCham New Zealand and DHL Express for a memorable evening.
Over the coming couple of weeks, I’ll showcase and congratulate the winners and finalists in each category. There are too many impressive companies for one post. And, for once, that is an excellent social media problem to have. 🇺🇸🇳🇿

Great to sit down with Finance and Economic Growth Minister Nicola Willis recently to discuss the strong economic relationship between the United States and New Zealand.
Economic conversations can quickly become a blizzard of charts, acronyms, and numbers with more decimal places than anyone asked for, but the opportunities are very real. We talked about ways to expand bilateral trade and investment, encourage innovation, and create new connections between American and New Zealand businesses.
I look forward to continuing our work to turn opportunities across the Pacific into tangible results for both our countries. 🇺🇸🇳🇿

Critical minerals are essential to economic prosperity, national security, and the technologies that power our modern world.
Recently, Ambassador Jared Novelly and the U.S. Commercial Service hosted New Zealand Resources Minister Hon. Shane Jones and leaders from New Zealand’s critical minerals and extractives sector for a reception in Wellington.
The United States is committed to working with trusted partners like New Zealand to build a more secure, reliable, and diversified global critical-minerals market. By connecting New Zealand organizations with American suppliers, technology, expertise, and investment opportunities, we can support growth and greater supply-chain resilience in both countries.

Elite athletes. Startup founders. Investors. Researchers. One room.
That’s a pretty good starting lineup.
We brought Wellington’s sport and innovation communities together at the U.S. Embassy with Creative HQ and David Steele from Texas Plug and Play to tackle a big question:
How can Wellington turn its sporting talent, technology and entrepreneurial firepower into a global sportstech advantage?
David brought lessons from Texas and Plug and Play’s Sportstech ecosystem, alongside local expertise from Paul Ifill of SportBrain, and Belinda Edwards of Basketball New Zealand.
The conversation continued with Kiwi founders through Creative HQ and at our 7th Innovation Reception at the Embassy.
Beyond the Embassy, David kept it going - talking disability sport with D-Sport founder Dr. Catriona McBean, visiting NZCIS to connect with sport and innovation leaders, and Taiawa Tech Hub and The Atom at Victoria University to connect with students.
That’s U.S.–New Zealand innovation ties at their best: connecting people, sharing expertise and creating opportunities for great ideas to travel in both directions.
Huge thanks to Creative HQ, NZCIS, D-Sport, SportBrain, Taiawa, Victoria University, Basketball New Zealand, and everyone who joined the conversation.

Twenty-five years after the September 11 terrorist attacks, the memories of that day remain with us.
At Auckland’s Sky Tower, Consul General Melissa Sweeney joined New Zealand firefighters and members of the public to remember the lives lost, and to honor the extraordinary courage of the first responders who ran toward danger to help others.
It was especially meaningful to mark this anniversary alongside Kiwi firefighters, united by the same spirit of service, courage, and sacrifice that we remember from September 11.
We remember those we lost. We honor those who answered the call. We will never forget. 🇺🇸🇳🇿
