“Do you fear death?” 20 years ago, Davy Jones and the crew of the Flying Dutchman arrived on cinema screens in the Oscar-winning Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest. Half-transformed into sea creatures and covered in barnacles and crustaceans, these buccaneers were created by ILM artists in collaboration with actor Bill Nighy and a troupe of remarkable actors, whose performances were adapted thanks to ILM’s pioneering IMocap (On-set Motion Capture) system.

50 years ago on March 22, 1976, Star Wars began filming in Tunisia. Among the shots captured were the first attempts at Luke Skywalker's view of the iconic twin sunset. ILM was less than a year old that spring of '76, and were busily preparing their visual effects pipeline at their Van Nuys, California studio.
