The #AWLNGlobalForum closed with a clear direction: take the commitments beyond New York and turn them into lasting action. 🔶 Scale financing for women’s political leadership 🔶 Build stronger partnerships to move from fragmented efforts to collective action 🔶 Open more diplomatic and decision-making spaces to women 🔶 Invest in mentorship and the next generation of women leaders 🔶 Carry forward the knowledge and legacy of Africa’s women leaders From commitments made in the room to action across the continent, the work continues. #AWLUNGA_81 #UNGA81

African women are already leading. They are shaping: 🏛️ Governance 🕊️ Peace 📈 Economies 🤝 Communities 💡 Innovation 🌱 Sustainable development Yet women remain significantly underrepresented in political leadership and decision-making. The question is no longer whether African women can lead. The question is whether global governance is ready to reflect their leadership. On 26 September 2026, the #AWLNGlobalForum on Women’s Leadership will bring together women leaders, policymakers and partners to advance a more inclusive vision of global governance, one that recognizes and reflects women’s leadership. 📍 320 Park Avenue, 35th Floor, New York, NY 10022 📅 26 September 2026 🕙 10:00AM - 2:00PM 🔗 Register here: shorturl.at/cGxe9 #AWLNUNGA81 #UNGA81

It’s been 15 years since South Sudan declared independence and broke away from Sudan after a referendum backed by 98.3% of voters. But many of the promises of peace and stability made in 2011 remain unfulfilled.

The transatlantic slave trade was a crime against humanity that struck at the core of personhood, broke up families & devastated communities. Let us reject the false narrative of racial difference & fully commit to human rights, equality & the inherent worth of every person.

Today, the @UN General Assembly has adopted a landmark Resolution : A/80/L.48 entitled “Declaration of the Trafficking of Enslaved Africans and Racialised Chattel Enslavement of Africans as the Gravest Crime Against Humanity.” This Resolution marks a significant milestone in global discussions about historical injustices and human rights. The landslide vote is as follows: ➡️ 123 in favor of the Resolution, ➡️ 52 Abstentions and ➡️ 03 Against. Tabled by the #AfricanGroupUN and championed by Ghana 🇬🇭, this landmark Declaration affirms that the transatlantic slave trade and racialised chattel enslavement were crimes against humanity whose consequences endure to this day. Addressing the General Assembly, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana 🇬🇭 , called on the world to stand on the right side of history and today, the world answered. This is a victory for Africa. For our ancestors. For the millions who suffered, and for the generations who carry this forward. The Decade of Action on Reparations has begun. #Agenda2063 #TheAfricaWeWant #ReparatoryJustice #UN80
