ANYTIME I SEARCH FOR AGENCIES ON UPWORK, I FIND 100 INDIAN AGENCIES FILLED WITH THEIR PEOPLE, AND MAYBE 2 OR 3 NIGERIAN AGENCIES WITH NOBODY ATTACHED TO THEM.
MIND YOU, WHEN AN AGENCY GROWS, IT CREATES OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE INDIVIDUAL FREELANCERS ATTACHED TO IT. THE AGENCY'S REPUTATION CAN HELP ITS MEMBERS WIN CLIENTS, TOO.
WE CAN GROW IF WE COME TOGETHER.
EVER WONDERED WHY FILIPINOS DO SO WELL IN CERTAIN FREELANCING NICHES? LOOK AT HOW THEY POSITION THEMSELVES, BUILD TEAMS, AND CREATE OPPORTUNITIES FOR ONE ANOTHER.
I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO PROBLEM WITH PEOPLE SELLING COURSES, RUNNING ACADEMIES, OR TEACHING OTHERS HOW TO MAKE MONEY IN TECH. SELLING IS BUSINESS, AND THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT.
BUT WE NEED TO DO MORE THAN TEACH PEOPLE HOW TO FREELANCE. WE NEED MORE AGENCIES.
YES, ACADEMIES ARE GOOD. SCHOLARSHIPS ARE GOOD. TRAINING PEOPLE IS GOOD.
BUT WHO IS BUILDING THE COMPANIES THAT WILL HIRE THESE PEOPLE, GIVE THEM THEIR FIRST EXPERIENCE, AND HELP THEM BUILD CREDIBLE PORTFOLIOS?
I GOT MY FIRST EXPERIENCE THROUGH AN AGENCY. I KNOW FIRSTHAND HOW IMPORTANT THAT OPPORTUNITY CAN BE.
WE KEEP CLAIMING THAT NIGERIANS ARE TECH-SAVVY, YET OUR PRESENCE IN THE GLOBAL FREELANCING ECOSYSTEM DOESN'T REFLECT OUR POTENTIAL.
WE NEED MORE NIGERIAN-OWNED AGENCIES COMPETING INTERNATIONALLY, BUILDING TEAMS, HIRING NIGERIANS, AND CREATING A PIPELINE OF OPPORTUNITIES.
NOT EVERYONE NEEDS TO COMPETE FOR THE SAME INDIVIDUAL CLIENT. SOME OF US SHOULD BE BUILDING THE PLATFORMS AND BUSINESSES THAT CREATE OPPORTUNITIES FOR HUNDREDS OF OTHERS.
WE DON'T JUST NEED MORE PEOPLE LEARNING TECH. WE NEED MORE PEOPLE BUILDING BUSINESSES THAT EMPLOY THOSE WHO LEARN IT.
AND I WILL KEEP SCREAMING THIS UNTIL WE TAKE IT SERIOUSLY.

Saudi Arab

Jesus Christ!
A kiss on the forehead???
This religion is fucking scary and I'm not even joking
Trending Story: Saudi Arabia has exe/cuted two Bangladeshi nationals, Nazrul Islam Abdul Basir and Siri Akhtar, following conviction of immoral sexual act inside a mosque in Mecca.
The “immoral act” was apparently a kiss on the forehead. They were newlyweds who decided to spend their honeymoon in Mecca.
According to reports in Bangladesh, Saudi authorities refused to consider they were a couple, and the forehead kiss was an expression of appreciation to Allah for a beautiful bride.
Their bodies have arrived in Bangladesh in two coffins for traditional burial rites.

Saw this on one of my Whatsapp groups.
EKEDC IN DESPERATION
_____
I installed an 18kW solar power system at my property in Lekki Phase 1, relegating EKEDC supply to a backup status. Since then, I have been having more frequent visits from personnel of Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC), coming to check my prepaid meter.
On one of those visits, the EKEDC team stood watching the meter for motion to indicate consumption. When the meter wasn't moving, they called me to say they suspected I had bypassed the meter. I told them I had enough solar power for my daytime needs and only used their supply as a backup for the dark hours. To prove this to them, I switched on my inverter bypass for about 2 minutes so my consumption would be from EKEDC. They saw the meter rotating normally. They were visibly upset and one of them mumbled something like "This ọ̀gá no wan gree us chop". They left.
Today (19-Oct-2026), three of them came to my premises with a notice of disconnection. The last time I loaded an EKEDC token was in July 2026 and I still had ample units left. When I asked why they would disconnect me, they said the reason was "LOR" (Loss of Revenue). They said my slow consumption indicates a faulty meter and I had to pay them ₦112,606 for loss of revenue.
I told them my meter was not faulty and that they could test it if they wanted. The lady said they were losing revenue and they had to make up for it.
I didn't know whether to laugh or to be angry. I have no intention of paying EKEDC a dime for its loss of revenue due to my taking steps to protect my interest.
But, I share this story for all who are investing in solar power to know that the DisCos are now desperate. They now have "Loss of Revenue" as a reason for your disconnection from their supply. It is simply that they are not making enough money from you.
I am waiting for EKEDC to disconnect me from their grid before I lodge a formal complaint to the regulatory authority.
We are in interesting times in Nigeria!
