Woke up today to find that my partner was missing & got a note from a “concerned friend” asking me, an “esteemed detective” to meet them in New York to solve the case. There was also an enclosed train ticket.
I love a good mystery. My weekend is about to get interesting.

Pretty simple story. The Post was primed to get a massive influx of subscribers and interest in the Trump 2 era — and they've produced major scoops consistently in this period — and then something very obvious stopped it all from happening.

A non-journalist friend asked me — is losing 300 people from a newsroom a lot?
I pointed out there are about 200 journalists at the Philadelphia Inquirer and about 100 at the Baltimore Banner. Imagine losing both those publications in a day.

The Washington Post laid off its entire award-winning photo staff.
Every photographer, fired.
The WaPo photo staff has won 5 Pulitzers, including as recently as 2019.
With a newsroom that still has 300 journalists, how do you produce a daily report with…no photographers?

NEWS: The cuts were so severe that at least one department head asked to leave The Post rather than be included in the planning.
Peter Finn, The Post's international editor, requested that he be laid off once he learned about the scope of the cuts to his section.

My @washingtonpost colleagues are some of the most brilliant, bravest journalists I know. Their tireless work makes The Post what it is and makes the world a more informed place.
We need them. And we need these stories — now more than ever.

To do what this team does takes a village, and our employers celebrate that village when we win awards. Job cuts now risk leaving the most vulnerable behind - in conflict zones, or in environments where losing the Post's protection risks livelihoods or even lives. #SaveThePost
@JeffBezos.
As @washingtonpost international & local correspondents, we have repeatedly risked our lives, side by side, because we believe that clear-eyed reporting from the ground serves the public good. To cut off that engine of brave, committed colleagues would be devastating. #SaveThePost

From Venezuela to Ukraine to Gaza, this work shapes policy & gives people truth where silence is enforced.

As international correspondents and reporters for the @washingtonpost, we risk our safety to investigate authoritarian governments, report from gang-controlled towns and document evidence of stolen elections. This on-the-ground reporting is more critical than ever. #SaveThePost

Kostya Khudov, the Ukrainian next to me in this photo, could’ve fled Kyiv. Instead, he drove against traffic on Feb 24, 2022 to find me in the city. He stayed with our team every day since — coming under artillery, ballistic missiles, drones for us. @JeffBezos #SaveThePost
