It's so frustrating when the actions of a few spoil your journey. Our new campaign reminds passengers to use headphones on trains, and highlights the penalties. And local leaders get new powers to tackle music, vaping and littering on buses. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cm89…

This is so moving 👇
I was 8 years old when the Aberfan disaster happened. So were many of the children who died. I've been able to live, to love, to work as a surgeon and now as an MP. What lives might they have led? Hearing the Lewis Merthyr Band in Parliament this evening was heartbreaking. We will never forget them.

Every seat in this stadium represents a child who could benefit from the stability of a loving home. We’re launching a national campaign to help create 10,000 new foster places and give more children the chance to thrive. Ever thought about becoming a foster carer? Five years on from the murder of Sir David Amess, we remember an outstanding public servant whose life was defined by service to others. We honour his memory by defending the right to serve our communities without fear, and strengthening protections for those who represent us.

These GDP figures are welcome news. Despite conflicts in the Middle East and Europe hitting people across the world, today’s figures offer more proof of Britain’s resilience in the face of these global shocks.
GDP grew 0.7% in the three months to August 2026, following revised growth of 0.5% in the three months to July. Services grew (+0.9%) while production (-0.2%) and construction (-1.0%) both fell. Read the full article ➡️ ons.gov.uk/economy/grossdome…

“With AI on the rise, we need to go harder on the skills that makes us human, like oracy. That ability to articulate yourself confidently is central to success in work and life, but for too long it’s been a marker of privilege. Now it will become the right of every child.” Read more 👇 thetimes.com/uk/politics/art…

Thank you to @UKHofficial for announcing 100,000 new jobs for young people not in education, employment or training over the next few years. This comes on top of a similar agreement reached last month with UK retail. theguardian.com/society/2026…

Due to ongoing regional tensions, we have updated our travel advice regarding entry to countries bordering Iran. Iran’s borders with neighbouring countries may have restrictions for foreign travellers and may close at short notice. If you are in Iran and plan to depart across a land border and consider it safe to do so, check the travel advice of the country you intend to enter before travelling to the border, including visa requirements: gov.uk/middle-east-updates Travel advice is kept under regular review to ensure it reflects our latest assessment of risks to British nationals.

The @guardian did not approach me or my team with these claims. Had they done so I would have said this is categorically untrue.

Proud to be a co-chair at the launch of the Labour Group for Men & Boys this week. As a former teacher, mum of 3 lads and so many fantastic men in my life I know that politics hasn’t always stepped up on the challenges facing men & boys. Time to do better. Time to change that
