THE SECRET BEHIND THE COWBOYS’ $10B+ VALUATION
Why are the Dallas Cowboys the most valuable franchise in sports?
It’s not just ticket sales or TV money.
Jerry Jones negotiated a special deal that lets the Cowboys keep a much larger share of apparel, licensing, stadium, and hospitality revenue than other NFL teams.
That means more revenue stays with the Cowboys — and more value accrues to the franchise.
With roughly $1.2B in annual revenue, the Cowboys have built a business model that looks very different from the rest of the league.
@davemcclure and @AmanVerjee break down how the Cowboys built the most valuable team in sports.

WHY WOULD YOU BUY A $3B SPORTS TEAM?
Because the tax bill can look very different from the sticker price.
A franchise buyer can potentially amortize intangible assets over 15 years, creating massive tax deductions along the way.
For a $3B purchase, that could mean billions in deductions over time — plus potential state and local tax benefits.
The real cost of a sports team may be far lower than the headline price.
@davemcclure and @AmanVerjee break down the math.

WHAT IF AI COMPANIES PAID THE GOVERNMENT FOR LEGAL PROTECTION?
@sama and @DarioAmodei might accept an “AI tax” or even a government stake — if it bought them something critical: legal certainty.
Pay upfront. Get protection from potentially unlimited liability as AI scales.

HOW DO YOU VALUE A $10 BILLION SPORTS TEAM?
Teams trade around 9–12x revenue, driven by:
• Stadium revenue
• Media rights
• Long-term media deals
The Yankees generate ~$320M from stadium revenue + ~$220M from media rights.
The Dodgers locked in a 25-year, $8B regional sports deal in 2013.
@davemcclure and @AmanVerjee break down how sports franchises get valued.

🫧 Aman Verjee on why the AI buildout doesn't feel like a bubble:
"If every single GPU that NVIDIA rolls off the assembly line, metaphorically, lights up the next day...
It's not like they're laying dark fiber or building railways that no one is using and then thinking, 'If we build it, they will come.' They're already here. They're building what people want.
So this feels like there's real demand."

WHY FUND MANAGERS AREN’T CHASING OPENAI AND ANTHROPIC
Everyone wants a piece of OpenAI and Anthropic.
But that may be exactly why some fund managers are staying away.
The problem isn’t that these companies are bad. It’s that everyone is chasing them — making shares harder to get and pushing investors to pay a premium to the last round.
Instead, Aman Verjee says the real opportunity may be the next 20–30 companies growing quickly, where there’s less market demand and investors can potentially buy at a discount.
Sometimes the best venture investment isn’t the company everyone wants.
It’s the one they haven’t discovered yet.

PAYPAL WENT PUBLIC IN 4 YEARS. SPACEX IS AT 24.
@PayPal was founded in 1998 and went public by 2002.
@SpaceX was founded in 2002. It’s now 24 years old—and finally went public.
And it's not an outlier.
Palantir: 17 years
Airbnb: 12 years
Uber: 10 years
Snowflake: 8 years
The IPO timeline for tech companies has changed dramatically.
So what happens when companies stay private for decades?

I have a recommendation to help bring some sanity to this whole AI doomerism situation that is appropriately exploding today.
If any reporter can get one of the "true believers" to sit for a real interview (if they can't, that is an important tell), they should use a technique known as the "Five Whys" en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Five_w….
The "five" number is arbitrary, but the point is to drill down into the details and steps required to get to the catastrophic end-point.
You can't take down all of humanity without a few intermediate steps. Let's talk through each of those. It's quite a useful exercise.
It would help us all think more clearly, and possibly the doomerists as well.

WHY CEOs DON'T JUST GO PUBLIC
A decade ago, many of today's biggest private companies would have already been listed.
Now? They're staying private longer—and for a good reason.
"You know how fun it is to run a private company compared to a public one? I could tell you because I've done both. As long as you want to be focused on really cool things like building new products and innovating a whole space, being private is great."

3 REASONS WHY AI IS NOT A BUBBLE
Aman Verjee points to three major differences between today's AI boom and the dot-com era:
- AI investment is being driven by profitable hyperscalers with massive cash reserves.
- Valuations remain far below the extremes of 1999.
- Perhaps most importantly: the demand is already here.
"It's demand-driven not supply-driven. I think, just the overall business, the technology, the value of it is incredible. There are a lot of things that AI is going to enable us to do that we haven't yet figured out, but that will leave a lasting and generally positive impact in what we do."

NVIDIA IS BETTING ON THE RACE, NOT THE HORSE 🏇
@nvidia is investing across almost every layer of the AI stack — chips, energy, infrastructure, data, LLMs, and applications.
✅$6B for Poolside technology.
✅$20B valuation for Mercor.
✅$30B rumored valuation for Perplexity.
Why pick a winner when you can invest in everyone?
With hundreds of billions in cash and massive free cash flow, NVIDIA has the firepower to back the entire AI ecosystem — especially as open-weight model usage drives demand for more compute.
@davemcclure and @AmanVerjee break down NVIDIA's all-in AI strategy.

Bubbles have a bad reputation. But history suggests they can also accelerate the technologies that change the world.
The dot-com bubble helped fuel companies like PayPal, giving disruptors the capital to challenge entrenched industries and forcing incumbents to adapt.
The same could be true for AI.
Even if today's AI boom eventually proves to be a bubble, it could still leave behind transformative technology, new infrastructure, and entirely new businesses.
@AmanVerjee joins the @ConvoswColeman podcast to discuss why bubbles can sometimes be a catalyst for progress.
