Five young lives were tragically lost in a Memphis crash involving a police cruiser responding to a call. My heart goes out to the families mourning this unimaginable loss. They deserve answers about what happened, and a thorough, transparent investigation is absolutely necessary.

🚨 #BlackAmerica, we need to pay attention right now. 🚨 Mississippi is nearly 40% Black (over 1 million of us)… yet we only have ONE Black congressman. And they’re trying to redraw the maps to take even that seat away. 🗺️❌ This isn’t just Mississippi. Across the country they’re redistricting districts so Black representation keeps shrinking. We started this cycle with 62 Black members of Congress — projections say that number could drop to 40 by the end of 2028. 📉 Meanwhile, the Black population in America is still growing. Representation is going backward while our numbers go forward. 🤔This is about power, not just seats. When we lose ground in Congress, our communities lose voice on everything that matters — funding, justice, education, business support, and protection. 🛡️What’s up with that? How are we going to respond as a community before these maps get locked in? 🗳️🔥 #BlackAmerica #VotingRights #KnowTheMaps #KushNation 🔴🔱⚫️

I took this photograph 20 years ago, in the French Quarter in April 2006, eight months after Katrina. Two girls in a slow moving pickup kept yelling, take our picture, take our picture. One of them got shy and turned away, so her friend pushed her face back towards my camera. Snap. The truck was gone in an instant. As far as I know, neither of them has ever seen this photograph. I wrote that the girl on the left embodies the joie de vivre New Orleanians have, that even the people hardest hit by life here carry a spirit about them. Twenty years of photographing cities later, I still believe that. Tennessee Williams said America has only three cities: New York, San Francisco, and New Orleans. Everywhere else is Cleveland. San Francisco is home. I have spent half my life photographing New York and New Orleans. There is a lot of truth in that quote, and some days, standing on a corner in the Quarter, I believe every word of it. But I am also in the middle of photographing the 100 largest cities in America, with albums published for 60 of them, and the project has ruined the quote for me a little. Detroit has a grit and a dignity all its own. So does Pittsburgh. So does Memphis, and El Paso, and a dozen other places Williams would have waved off as Cleveland. And of course Chicago has that pizza. And don't you dare try to say Lou Malnati's deep dish is not pizza. Every great city has its own charm. You just have to walk it with a camera until it shows you. So no, I will not take the Williams quote as religion. But back here in New Orleans this weekend, with the food and the music and the art and the people. I understand exactly why he said it. My 100 Largest American Cities collection: flickr.com/photos/thomashawk… Now the part I actually care about. Somewhere out there are two women who were girls in a truck in the Quarter in 2006. Were they sisters? Friends? I would love to take their portrait again, 20 years later. How awesome would it be if this found them? And Cleveland, defend yourself. Tell me why your city belongs on the list. You are one of the hundred American cities I still need to photograph.

#Broncos legend Aqib Talib responds to Ryan Fitzpatrick's tirade against Bo Nix, repeatedly telling Fitzpatrick he "sucks" while pulling the reciepts on his career 💀 “You are disrespectful to the quarterback position ’cause you suck. Period. ... We’re talking about a guy [Fitzpatrick] who played for nine different teams in 17 years. ’Cause ain’t nobody want his ass." "We’re talking about a guy who only played for a team for more than two years once. That’s Buffalo. And his record as a starter in Buffalo was 19-35. That’s f*cking suck." "A guy who played 17 years, 147 starts, and never sniffed a playoff game. He never touched the playoffs ever. That’s disrespectful to the quarterback position." "You suck. You suck, bro." "We’re talking about a guy who got 169 interceptions, more interceptions than he has starts. How can a quarterback of his caliber talk about what is disrespectful to the quarterback position?" "Nobody’s worried about what Fitzpatrick said. Nobody was worried about playing against you. You suck.” (via @_gridironpod)

By John Bennett ~ Here is my message to Black, but ," you no Black", non- Black American, immigrants and first generation Blacks in America ( meaning your momma/daddy not American). What we have come to describe as tethers because you are not FBA Foundational Black Americans ( meaning you have lineage dating back to the transatlantic slave trade). We delineate for a reason. The primary reason is some of you are so disrespectful. Some of you dont appreciate that you wouldnt be in America were it not for the sacrifices of Black Americans. It was the 1964 Civil Rights Movement, followed by the law that opened the door for all immigrants of all stripes to come to America. So this message for you is simple. Glad youre here if youre in concert with Black Americans to fight for equality. As Congressman John Lewis called, 'Good Trouble'. If you're not mind your business and put some respect on our name. We dont care to hear what you think we should be doing or what you think we need or dont need. Your thoughts on such matters as reparations is not needed or ask for. Unlike many of yourselves Black Americans know our worth. so because we're unwilling to work in fields for $1 a day doesnt make us lazy. It makes us smart. Especially in one of the riches countries in the world. One that we help built. Black Americans spend $1.8 trillion every year in this economy. How are we being called lazy with that earning and spending prowess. We are a big part of the service industry which is the workers, the middle and lower class who keep this economy afloat. Black women are among the most educated in this country. Black men have very high earning power. We set the trends and pave the way for alot that happens in this country. We didnt start the delineation, Black immigrants did because they wanted everyone to know they werent us. That delineation has come back to bite them as this administration deports. They've looked for an ally in Black people but have been reminded they wanted nothing to do with Black Americans.
