Axios: Dems' red-state showings raise prospect of a bigger 2028 map
Move over Wisconsin and Arizona. With Democrats making Republicans sweat in a host of red-state Senate races, a new batch of swing states may be emerging.
Some of the closest Senate races are in Nebraska, Ohio, Texas, Iowa and even Kansas. Sure, this could be a blip — or a reminder that it's a 50-50 moody nation, even in a bunch of red states.

Yes, absolutely. AI Doomers are practically a marketing arm of the AI companies and here is Gary Marcus to explain why.
Gary Marcus (@GaryMarcus) says AI doomers are practically a marketing arm for the AI companies, and without them Dario Amodei and Sam Altman wouldn't have the kind of funding they do:
"The so-called doomers who are most concerned that we might literally go extinct, I didn't fully spell out the argument for why I don't believe it, but those guys are practically like a marketing arm for the AI companies."
"Each time the doomers run around and say, oh my God, this technology is so powerful, we're all going to die, a whole bunch of investors are like, powerful?"
"How much can my allocation be?"
"Remember, the doomers need to raise money too, right?"
"And the more that they can terrify people, the more money they raise."
"And that falls into the hands of people like Dario and Sam."
"If we hadn't had the doomers, I don't think that Dario and Sam would have the kind of funding they do. I really don't."
"If there's a continuum between like people like me who are pretty cynical about the current technology and people who really hype it up, the doomers are always on the hype it up side, always."
- Gary Marcus, AI critic and author of Taming Silicon Valley, on The Real Eisman Playbook, published October 12.
Maybe the most insane post I've ever seen. This man should be institutionalized.

Protests are breaking out in Georgia after family views bodycam of 18-year-old shot and killed by police
Around 1 a.m. on October 3, a Newnan officer followed a white car where five men exited and four ran.
The officer chased Dorsey, ordered him to stop, and deployed a Taser that failed.
Investigators say Dorsey then pulled a gun from his waistband. The officer then fired multiple shots. A gun was recovered.
After the family reviewed bodycam protesters gathered outside the Newnan Police Department.
Dorsey’s aunt, Angela Brown, said, “He wasn’t no criminal. He was somebody, and I loved him.”
Dorsey was out on a $20,000 bond facing child molestation, statutory rape, and battery charges from a case in which authorities say he and two others held five girls, including a 14-year-old, at gunpoint and pressured them for sex.
Bodycam is expected to be released after the autopsy is complete.
They’ll protest for anyone these days.

Well, there it is. What's sad is that even when they spell it out like this, a good portion of the dissident right will continue to support it thinking they are somehow using Yoram and his buddies, and not the other way around.
John Podhoretz says National Conservatism is a Straussian project by Yoram Hazony, whose purpose is to secure Western support for Israel annexing the West Bank.
Podhoretz claims Hazony told him this himself, at his house in the West Bank.

Working Americans: “Can we have universal healthcare so insurance isn’t tied to employment and things are actually covered?”
The reaction in Japan in their media has been pretty universal:
It’s foolish, counterproductive, cruel, and barbaric.
And unwise: Japan media points out Hasan reportedly shouted "Allahu Akbar" while opening fire at the time of the attack, pointing to his resonance with Islamic extremist ideology. For that reason, there are concerns that video footage of the execution could be exploited by extremists in the Middle East for "martyrdom" propaganda or to incite anti-American sentiment, for he most certainly will shout this again loudly before his execution (which could be viewed by millions in the Middle East.)
Above all, Japan media notes this is an issue that touches on military ethics and human dignity, raising serious questions about the ethics of America using punishment as a public spectacle.
