We're building an online institute for #AcademicFreedom following the hostile takeover of @NewCollegeofFL, which has caused 40% of the faculty to flee, leaving students in chaos. Courses under threat of censorship will be announced soon. #SaveNewCollege @SaveNewCollege

A cache of emails from school attorneys in FL reveals chaos, confusion, and fear, over the last year, as they tried to interpret vague new state laws and whether they need to ban books. This is the #EdScare. #BookBans
“I don’t know how we protect staff here without banning every single book that has any type of coming of age story line.” This is why “err on the side of caution” = censorship. Thank you, ⁦@smbrugal⁩ for this reporting. #ErrOnTheSideOfEducation miamiherald.com/news/local/e…

Do not miss the latest on book bans. They are getting worse—a 33% spike over the previous school year with Florida taking the lead with the most books banned. Children should never be taken hostage by the political agenda of politicians.
The freedom to read is under assault—particularly in public schools—curtailing students’ freedom to explore words, ideas, & books. In the 2022–23 school year, PEN America recorded 3,362 instances of book bans in US public school classrooms & libraries. ➡️pen.org/report/book-bans-pre…
